Clementine could not sleep that night. She barely got two hours of sleep, since she could not stop overthinking. She didn't know for sure if she was pregnant, but she had a feeling since her period was late, and never in her life it had happened. She had realized it last night at Bucky's apartment, and she didn't want to tell him anything until she was sure.
By 7 a.m, the sunlight was already going into her bedroom and directly into her eyes, so she got up and she went to take a shower. When she was done, she heard some voices downstairs, and she realized her family was already there. She took a deep breath and told herself to calm down. She started going down the stairs, with a fake smile on her face, and she saw her sister and her parents by the entrance.
"Clem!" Said Sophie, as she run in her direction and hugged her.
"I missed you, kiddo." Said Clementine, hugging her back.
"Oh, there you are, darling..." said her mother, smiling at her oldest daughter.
"Hi... how was the trip back home?" Asked Clementine.
"It wasn't too bad... but we are glad to be back, things in Europe are getting worse." Said her father, sighing.
"That's not good ..." Said Clementine, a bit worried.
"Yes, I'm afraid we won't be able to go back soon... it's too dangerous." Said her father.
"Are Eleanor and Thomas back as well?" Asked Clementine.
"Yes, they went home. And Thomas brought that french girl with him..." said Mrs. Argent.
"Really? That's great! It must be going well, then." Said Clementine, smiling.
Her mother nodded, but she seemed disappointed. She still had not gotten over the fact that Clementine and Thomas were over, and even though she never said anything, Clementine could see it all over her face.
Before anyone else could say anything, they heard a loud knock on the door. One of the maids then opened the door, and Clementine saw Maria standing there. She had asked her friend to go with her to the clinic to run some tests, since she didn't feel capable of going by herself.
Maria then smiled and went into the house. "Hello, Clementine."
"Hey... Maria, this is my family." Said Clementine, looking at her parents.
"Oh, you must work with Clementine at the hospital." Said Mr. Argent, shaking Maria's hand.
"Yes, we work together. My name is Maria Collins..." she said, politely. "It's very nice to meet you all."
"Collins?" Asked Mrs. Argent.
"Yes, I'm John Collins' niece... "
"How wonderful! So you're Martha's cousin... it's very nice to meet you." Said Mrs. Argent, smiling.
María then smiled at them, and before she could reply, Clementine widened her eyes and sighed.
"We should go... Im sorry Mom, but we have to go something at the hospital today... it won't take long, but we have to go." Said Clementine.
"I thought you were staying for breakfast..." said Sophie, sounding disappointed.
"I know, but we can have lunch later. I promise." Said Clementine, smiling at her sister.
Sophie nodded and they all said goodbye, and Maria and Clementine then got into the cab waiting for them.
"Where to?" Asked the driver, looking at the girls.
"Brooklyn Free Clinic, please." Said Clementine.
The driver nodded and started the car.
"Why are we going there? Wouldn't it be easier to go to one in Manhattan?" Asked Maria.
