Alejandro sat on the sofa, his eyes on the tv. Elijah sat next to him, playing a game on his phone. It had been three years since Mattia's passing. Elijah was now six years old. He still didn't know what had happened to his other father, but maybe it was for the best. Alejandro grabbed the remote and shut off the tv. "You wanna go to the mall and just eat there?" He asked Elijah. Elijah paused his game and set his phone on the arm rest of the chair. "Mm.. sure!" Alejandro smiled. "Alright, then. Let's go!" He stood up from the couch and grabbed Elijah, swinging him around. The small boy giggled and Bear barked, his tail wagging.
"We'll be back in a bit, Bear. We're just going out to eat." Alejandro sat Elijah on his right hip and shut off the lights. He walked out of the house, pulling his keys from his pocket. He shut the door and locked it. He proceeded out to his car. He opened the door and set Elijah in his booster seat. He buckled the boy and shut the door, making his way over to the other side. Alejandro opened his own door and got in, shutting the door behind him. He started the car and backed out of the driveway. As soon as he was in the street he was on his way to the mall.
Alejandro parked in a spot fairly close to the large building. He turned the car off and got out. He walked over to Elijah's side and opened the door. He unbuckled the boy and picked him up, setting him on the ground. He shut the car door and locked it. Elijah stuck his hand out for Alejandro to hold. Alejandro smiled and gladly took the boy's small hand into his own. The pair began walking, but stopped abruptly when Alejandro stopped walking. He stared at the car with furrowed eyebrows. It was a white tesla, the same model Mattia had. It even had the same stickers and customized plate. The costa rican blinked and shrugged it off, figuring it was just a coincidence.
Alejandro walked into the mall, hand in hand with Elijah. All sorts of smells hit his nose, causing his face to scrunch up. "Where you wanna eat, buddy?" Alejandro asked curiously. Elijah shrugged and looked around. His face lit up when he seen a toy store. Or at least that's what Alejandro thought. "Daddy! Let's go to the toy store.. pretty please?" Elijah asked, begging. Alejandro chuckled. "Oh, alright." The two walked into the toy store, and Alejandro remained near the entrance. "Go pick you out some toys, buddy. Then bring them pack and I'll see if I approve." Alejandro said, getting a basket down from the stack. Elijah nodded his head rapidly. "Okay, daddy!" Elijah took the basket from Mattia and ran off, disappearing into the aisles of the store.
Alejandro pulled out his phone and began going through instagram and other social media's. He felt so numb without Mattia. If it wasn't for the small boy, Alejandro would of committed suicide by now. His head raised when he heard talking, specifically Elijah's voice. His eyebrows furrowed and he began to walk deeper into the store, following the sound. Alejandro found the boy and walked directly towards him. Without looking at the stranger he began to apologize. "I'm so sorry.. he's just a bit talkative, he's ne-" Alejandro looked up, gasping. "Oh my god."
