"Wow, that's terrifying." I say, after MJ finished her story about the 'Watcher House.'
"Right? I wish I could visit." She said, sitting criss-cross-applesauce across from me on the couch. "Imagine getting sent those letters, you'd be scared shitless." She continued, teasing.
"My first guess wouldn't be a ghost."
MJ squinted her eyes, purposely looking as if she was trying to read me, "Which are you more scared of? Ghosts or real people?"
"Mmmmm, I don't know... I don't really believe in ghosts."
"That's not the question: would you be more scared of a demon or a real person?"
"... What's the difference?" I ask, mocking her expression as I squint my eyes.
"... Tochè."
MJ had gotten into a new Podcast that talked about supernatural cases around the world, she would often share what she found interesting to me. Along with other murder cases she learns about. It was hard to believe that we've lived together for five months now.
I break our eye contact as my phone gets a notification, it's a police com notification. I had figured out how to hack into the police coms so I knew exactly when and where they needed help. Not to mention I made a new friend in the police force: her name was Yuriko Watanabe (but I called her Yuri). To be fair, she told me she didn't trust me but they could use my help. If that's a compliment, I'll take it.
"I have to go..." I say, standing up, still looking down at my phone.
"Why? I thought you didn't have class today?" She asked.
"Aww MJ, you want me to stay?" I tease.
"Ok, bye." She said, getting up and going to her room, probably to finish her painting she was working on. Then again, that painting has been the same for months.
I grab my backpack and change on the roof of the apartment complex. I stand on the ledge, looking down. I smile and jump off, head first. The adrenaline rushing through me as I swing to the action. The sun sat in the middle of the sky, and it's warm rays casted down on me. I swung low to the ground, giving a wave to the New Yorkers walking on the sidewalk. I saw a camera flash before I swung back into the air, "Alright, time to be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." I say, swinging to the location that came up on the police coms. I swing over an intersection, seeing shots being fired between the police and some gang. I zoom in on their weapons with my mask as I hang onto the side of a building: Oscorp. Again? I jump down and swing to the police car, landing on its side as more bullets fired from the other side. Yuri was using this car as cover as she tried to find an opening to shoot. There was a cut through her black leather jacket and her straight short black hair was not as uniform as usual. "Hey what's up?"
"Not the time, Spider-Man." She said, not looking at me.
"Who are these guys?"
"Hammerhead's goons."
"Hammerhead??? Someone's back in the game... Need some help?" I ask.
"... Do your thing."
I smile, and jump out to go handle hammerhead's guys. Once I had webbed up everyone, I turned to Yuri and held my hand up for a high five, "Up top!"
