I turned my head towards the door, the realization hitting me as soon as I moved... Wait... I walk to the door... wait... I pick up my pace and then run out the door, frantically looking everywhere but Peter was already gone. I breathe heavily, my breath being seen in the air. It was getting colder. I go back inside and up the stairs... making my way back to the couch before sitting down in Peter's spot. My body feels numb as I take Peter's coat and pull it to my chest, the long coat dragging on the couch as I did. I grip it to my chest... it smelt like him... I remember from when I tried to sleep in his bed... It's a warm, earthy smell, like that of autumn leaves in the wind... Made sense.
I hug Peter's jacket close to me and hear his words in my head...I run my thumb gently on the material as I thought... I've never seen him like that... I can't believe I've been ignoring this... ignoring him... How could I have let this go on for so long...? Didn't I know this since high school? I know I did... I was just scared... And I'm still scared... I've been ignoring the butterflies because I'm scared... Why can't I just trust him? Trust me? God, what a mess... I need to go after him.
I get up and set Peter's jacket on the couch as I took mine and put it on. I then grabbed Peter's jacket and exited the bar. The minute I step outside, the cold air hits me. It was almost winter. I then walk towards the sirens, pulling up the news on my phone to try and find him. This couldn't wait.
I power walk down the sidewalk and through the many people in their own rush. I see blue and red lights and start jogging towards them, rounding the corner but it was just the cops stopping a robbery. No Spider-Man. I hug Peter's jacket tighter as I then go down the opposite way, staring down at my phone as I looked for any videos someone has posted recently about Spider-Man. What if he never comes back to the apartment? I need to find him. I'm stopped in my tracks as I see Aunt May's homeless shelter. I look at the building before I then head inside. The warmth of the building warmed my cheeks. It was crowded with people due to the weather. I navigate my way to the back, unsure where to go or if I should be looking for May or Peter.
Aunt May was handing out hot chocolate, I went to her, "Hey, Ms. Parker, it's been so long." I say with a sympathetic smile. Her eyes widen at me and she gives me a big smile, "Oh, just call me May or Aunt May, Ms. Parker sounds old." She laughs and I laugh a little with her.
"Do you know where Peter is?"
"I do not... I'm sorry sweetie."
"It's ok, if you do see him tell him I'm looking for him."
"Will do."
I give a goodbye before I exit the shelter: back at square one. I start walking again, being aware of my surroundings more than usual. I could have walked the entirety of New York if I didn't spot a bunch of cop cars around a building. I see a woman with black, short hair and a leather jacket giving orders to other cops and agents as they came by her. I hear the name 'Yuri' between exchanges and remember Peter saying that name. I go to her, "Excuse me-" I say, the woman whips her head to me, raising her eyebrow. "Yuri?" I ask.
"Yuriko Watanabe, Who are you?"
"I'm..." I hesitate, "a reporter... not exactly a reporter though because I work by myself. Um- Michelle Jones." Smooth.
"This is confidential."
"I understand. If I could just ask one question-"
"What?"
"Uh, Spider-Man has been seen working alongside you all lately and I was wondering if he'd be coming to help... Now." Ok, not bad.
"I see, look, we understand the controversy of working with a visual anti but-"
"Oh no! I'm not-"
"I don't think Spider-Man has gotten our message and might be dealing with something else. Now please leave the area." Yuri moves past me roughly, and goes to the building she and her team had surrounded. I narrow my eyes, thinking... Maybe I could actually figure something out. Was this about New York's Underworld? I start to walk around the building and take it in. It looked to be a broken down ten story house. The windows were boarded up and it was eerily quiet compared to the chaus outside. I looked back over at the cops and FBI and they weren't paying attention to me. I step slowly closer to the house before climbing through a small hole in the house near the ground. I crawl under and quickly duck behind a crate as I hear a gruff man say "Damnit, Hammerhead's gonna kill us if we lose this merchandise." He says. My heart is pounding, I was really doing this right now??? "Send the guys to deal with the cops outside. We gotta get out of here before the Webhead gets here."
Shit... What if they catch me?! Adrenale courses through me and I suddenly feel how Peter must feel all the time. Or maybe he's used to it... I look over the crates and see the man walk into a different room. I quickly move, speed walking quickly with my back low to the ground. I duck under the stairs and breath heavily, I'm between boxes as I slowly move to look at what's in the boxes. Oscorp Weapons... Just like Peter said. What are they planning? I don't think I should stay any longer though... I had nothing to defend myself, not even a taser.
