The Girl In Shining Armour

Chapter 8

I woke up to the doors opening and Peter shaking the pit door.

"Come On! Open Up!!! Where is Lucy?!?!" He screamed. I felt sorry for him. He was so protective. If anything would happen to us, he would never forgive himself. Today at the gathering, if they decide to banish me, he will probably get banished to because he will probably kill someone, or himself.

Gally was thrown in the pit shortly after I was. He attacked Alby because they said I might be banished. I slumped myself in the corner closest to his cell. I could hear muffled sounds, but no full words.

About an hour after the doors to the Maze opened, Minho and Thomas came to the cell door. Minho came and sat down beside me. Thomas went over to sit with Edmund and Peter. I had a feeling that Minho came to tell me my punishment. I also had a feeling it wasn't good.

"So... We had the gathering..." He sighed. I knew it.

"I am gonna be banished aren't I?" I said. My teeth were clenched and my eyes were just barely holding back tears. Minho looked over at me. I couldn't take it anymore. I let the tears stream from my face. He pulled me into a side hug and tried to stay strong. I could tell he was about to cry too.

"I am so sorry..." He said. He pulled me into a two armed hug and I burrowed my face in his chest. He began to cry into my hair. Soon Peter, Edmund and Thomas were a part of the hug too.

"You are getting..." Minho paused,"... At sundown today." I cried harder."

"WHY?!?!?!" I screamed.

Newt came in on our cry fest and cleared his throat.
"I have come to take you to see Gally and then to your separate cell," he sniffed. I nodded my head and gave everyone a hug. When I came to Edmund, I began to cry again. I had only know him for a short time and now I was leaving him. Why me??? Newt silently pulled me away from them and brought me to Gally's cell. He was curled up in a corner with his hands tied behind his back. His eyes widened when I ran over to him. I kneeled down beside him and he put his chin on my head. I wrapped my arms around him and told him my fate.

"I am being banished at sun down today," I whispered.

"No no no no no no no no way," he said. His fists began to clench behind his back.

"It is time to go Susan," Newt said. I nodded my head and began to walk towards him. Gally snuck up behind me and turned me around.

"Gally, I am sorry b-" I began to say before his lips crushed against mine. It was powerful. I isn't want to ever leave him. We pulled apart and newt grabbed my arm.

"Let's go Susan..." He said. I let him pull my out and push me into another. This cell was smaller. They called it the slammer. It was where all the people about to be banished were put. There was no window, the door was made of metal and it was colder. Now this really was an icebox.

I sat at the door and waited for Newt to bring me to the doors. At about 5:40, two boys came to the door and dragged me out by the arms. I did not dare struggle. They dragged me to a circle of boys and threw me at the wall. I looked to the side and saw Gally standing there with tears in his eyes.

"Bring out the pole," Alby said to Newt. His froze before walking over to shed like a robot. He returned with a giant, aluminum pole with the collar attached to it. Alby took hold of the collar and wrapped it around my neck.

"Don't do it!!! Please!!!" Gally screamed. I just sat there on my hands and knees waiting for it to be over.

"Susan the greenie, you are being banished for violating 2 of our rules. Never hurt another Glader and Never Ever leave the Glade. Keepers, take your positions." Alby said. No one moved.

"I Said, Take Your Positions!" He screamed. No one moved. I fell flat on the ground . I began to cry. My tears pooled around me and turned the dirt underneath my face to a small layer of mud.

"Just do it..." I whispered. "please..."

I pushed myself off the ground and got back into a kneeling position. One by one, the Keepers grabbed hold of the pole. Just then, wind picked up and the doors began to close. Before I knew it, I was thrusted into the Maze and the doors were inches apart.

The solid stone hit one another and the sound echoed through out the Maze. The sound of metal against cement followed. I knew I was going to die that night, it was only a matter of time before it happened...
