A sea of hopeful trainees flooded through the exit. I felt good about my audition, although I had no idea if I was good enough. I entered the main lobby, waiting for the manager to pick me up. To my surprise I felt a strong tap on my shoulder. I turned to locate the person only to be greeted with a familiar face. "What are you doing here?" I asked in shock.
"I wanted to surprise you." Seonghwa had a bright smile on his face.
I looked up at him in confusion. Why was he there? His grin faded as he read my expression. "What's wrong? Your audition was amazing so why are you sad?" He asked, holding my shoulders.
As I continued to glare at him, I replied. "Why are you here, Hwa?"
His grip dropped from my arms followed by a puzzled expression. "Do you not want me here?"
I pushed my hair back and released a stressed sigh. "This isn't the best place for people to see us together." I explained. "We shouldn't been seen together at all."
"Why do you care so much about rumours? As long as we know the truth it doesn't matter." He said.
Before I could respond, I heard a voice call my name. I looked behind Seonghwa, It was Naeyon. She was waving at me from a distance. As she walked closer I got nervous, Hwa being there wasn't helping. Within a blink, she was standing opposite me, next to him. I forced a smile and asked "What are you still doing here?"
"I left my bag in the hall. Has your ride not arrived yet?" She asked.
I just nodded in response. At that moment, she had noticed the tall man she was standing next too. Her small eyes had gotten larger and her mouth flew open. I giggled nervously, Seonghwa hadn't payed any attention to Naeyon. He was staring at me, The bewildered expression had not left his face. "Oh my God" Naeyon gasped. "You're Park Seonghwa."
To avoid any further complications, I grabbed Seonghwa's arm "My ride is here! Sorry I have to go." I lied.
While dragging Hwa out of the building I could hear Naeyon call "Wait! Yeosoon!" Ignoring her made me feel guilty but I had to keep my private life a secret, and that meant my relation to Ateez.
Fortunately, The manager was parked only outside the building. I threw the pair of us in the car and sunk down into the seat as we set off. Although, I quickly sat up in realisation and looked at Seonghwa. "Where are the other members?"
"They are at the schedule." He replied.
"Shouldn't you be with them? Why did you come here?"
Seonghwa turned to face me, focusing on my eyes. "Why are you avoiding me?"
I rolled my eyes, sat back in my seat and crossed my arms "I'm not avoiding you." I lied.
His attention never left me, "Ever since that interview you haven't even looked me in the eye, never mind spoke to me."
I remained in my still position, not redirecting my eyeline. Seonghwa kept looking at me as if waiting for an answer. "And what was with the mood change in the cafeteria, I had never seen you like that before."
Eventually, I met his eyes. "You've known me for 2 months, you know nothing about me." I argued. "Why does it even bother you? I'm your friend's sister. That's it. We have no other relation, so why do you even care?!
"Because I like you!" Seonghwa yelled.
The manager pressed down the brakes faster than my eyes could widen. Both me and Hwa stared at each other, none more shocked than the other. His Adams apple moved from his exaggerated gulp, his pupils were shaking and the corners of his mouth were twitching. I couldn't tell whether he was angry or nervous.
Before either of us could let words escape our mouth, our eye-contact was broken by the beep of the car horn. We both almost lost our souls. The manager was then facing us, his face was full of concern. His finger wondering between the pair of us. "Now I'm only gonna say this once to the both of you, liking one another will only destroy your careers. There is no place for love in your world." He warned. He faced the front once again and released a loud sigh that echoed through the silence in the car. On that note he started driving again.
Speechless was the only way to describe how I felt in that moment. He liked me? What the hell was he thinking? Why did my heart stop when he said it? I shook those thoughts from my mind, refusing to face the situation. Yet, the manager's words kept ringing in my head "It even ruins their careers. but I know that you care too much about all of the boys to do that." He was right. I would never even think about doing anything that could harm them. That's why I couldn't feed Seonghwa what he wanted. I couldn't let him have any feelings for me. That was the second I came to the conclusion to focus on becoming a trainee and debuting.
I peaked at Seonghwa in the mirror. My heart sank at his expression, his head was lowered as he played with his fingers. Nothing but guilt painted his face. I leaned my head on the window until we pulled up outside the broadcasting station. All three of us entered and made our way to the waiting room in silence. One we had stood outside the door ready to go in, Manager stopped us and made us face him. He had one hand on Seonghwa's shoulder and the other on mine. "You two are going to walk in there and act like you've had the greatest time, okay?" He said. We both nodded and eventually entered the waiting room.
We were greeted by 7 men smiling. Their grins all faded away as they had seen that I and Hwa were together. We walked in and took our seats awkwardly, I sat next to Yunho meanwhile, Seonghwa sat next to Hongjoong at the other end of the room.
After receiving a soft, warm hug from Yunho, he asked. "So..? How did it go?" Holding my shoulders.
I gave him a genuine smile and replied "I think it went really well." I was surrounded by cheers and congratulations. But while receiving the applaud I couldn't help but glance at Seonghwa who sat with his face lowered and his arms crossed. Causing my smile to become forced. Although it was no longer needed when Yeosang had spoke...
"Where did you go Hyung? You left straight after your individual shoot." He asked.
Seongwha's gaze met with mine as his eyes had became larger. After hesitating, he replied "I just went for a long walk around the area. That's when I saw Yeosoon and the manager walk in, so I joined them."
Luckily, he had saved himself. I had no clue that he had snuck out to watch my audition, I couldn't help but feel bad for him. He had really made such an effort for me yet I just scolded him.
It was at that moment that the boys were announced to go to the set. They all left, ruffling my hair on the way out, leaving me with the staff so I didn't 'cause trouble'. Truthfully, I was glad to be away from them. I couldn't bare to be in the same room as Seonghwa with that atmosphere.
