Chapter 5

(Der POV)

Miranda and I walked back into the CT room and wheeled Meredith out and back to her room. Miranda started her on some pre op biotics. I sat on a nearby chair and started to do some paperwork. It was 4pm, and her surgery wasn't until 6pm. I figured I was just going to do paperwork until then, but then Meredith woke up around 5pm. "Hey beautiful." I said sweetly. "Hey Der." She replied. "Your appendix burst, so we have a surgery set for 6, so we have an hour to relax." I told her. "Okay, do you want to lay with me?" She asked. "Of course." I said as I got into her bed. She rotated herself so she was in between my legs, like before when we were in bed at home. She rested her head on my chest and I kissed her head gently. "Derek?" She asked. "Yeah Mer?" I replied. "Thanks for being here with me." She said shyly. "Anytime Mer, ill always be here." I told her. "Can you put on the tv?" She asked. "Sure. What do you want to watch?" I replied. "Can you put the Seahawks game on?" She questioned. "Sure Mer, I didn't know you liked football." I said as I grabbed the remote to put on the game. I also wanted to watch it. "Yeah, me and my dad used to watch every Sunday, before he left." She said. I kissed her head, as if I was showing her I wouldn't leave. "Well, now we can watch it together." I said. "Anyways, how are you feeling? We have about 30 more minutes until your surgery." I asked. "I have my good friend morphine here, so I feel okay." She replied honestly. I nodded and wrapped my arms around her as we watched the game. Meredith and I sat in a comfortable silence as we watched the game. "Yeah!!!! Baldwin for the win!!" She exclaimed happily. I laughed, and wrapped my arms around her even tighter, thankful for the woman in my arms. As we were celebrating the touchdown, Bailey came in and said "Alright Grey, you ready?" "Yeah Bailey, let's get this over with." Meredith responded. Bailey and I grabbed her bed and wheeled her out of the room. Before we headed to the OR, Bailey stopped me and said "This is as far as you got Shepherd." "Bailey, please, I'll sit by her head and won't say a word." I begged. She nodded her head and we wheeled Mer in. I scrubbed in with Miranda. "Ready Mer?" I asked. "Yes." She replied. I could tell she was nervous, even though she'd never admit it. "It's gonna be okay, it's a routine procedure." I whispered. "I know." She said. "I love you." I said. "I love you too." She replied. "Alright Grey, count down from 10." Bailey directed. "10, 9 ,8 ,7." She mumbled sleepily.
