No

No no no.

It couldn't be a Parc. Shauna and Dylan Parc both died sixteen years ago and they never had children. They were just myth and legend. Died protecting our kind. But that screen in front of me was telling me otherwise.

Shauna and Dylan's parents had set up this place to train people with special abilities. Then their parents disappeared mysteriously leaving them to step up to the plate and take the lead, and they had been doing that for over thirty years. But sixteen years ago they died protecting us from people that didn't like who we were. Their parent's bodies were then found a few years later at a graveyard. No one knows why.

They died. Everyone there saw them die and they never had a child. This didn't make sense.

I continued to stare at her name, trying to make sense of the impossible. I went through everything that I'd learnt about the Parc family in my head for the hundredth time but it still didn't add up.

There had got to be some mistake, that was why the file was withdrawn. But that picture of Lyla with her emerald green eyes with gold flecks were boring into me, making her feel real. Her picture felt like it was jumping out at me, forcing me to believe that she was alive and that Shauna and Dylan actually had a child.

Lyla Parc, I repeated in my head. The name filled my mind and I had to squeeze my eyes shut and shake my head so I could get rid of it.

"How?" I mumbled to Ben.

He stayed quiet, not answering.

"How?!" I asked again, raising my voice. I closde my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I couldn't believe I was losing my temper over a girl that didn't exist. I read through the rest of the file, trying to find something that makes sense in it.

Age: 17

Living: Cosmyd

Abilities: Multiple

Multiple? How could someone have multiple abilities? I shook my head and kept reading.

Marked: Unknown

Now I understood why the file was withdrawn. Nothing in that document was right. Multiple abilities? Unknown marker? But I had this strong feeling at the pit of my stomach that was telling me she's real, all of this information. This sort of... pull.

I turned my face away from the computer, my brown hair fell in my face, and the image of her soft blonde hair flashed across my eyes.

She was beautiful, but she looked posh, stuck up. Her face covered in makeup and her hair done to perfection, not a single strand out of place. But she looked like her mother and father. Of course I had never met them personally but their pictures were everywhere.

I tilted my head to the side to see that Ben was staring at me, waiting for some sort of reaction.

Without thinking I blurted out, "she's real."

He cocked his head and squinted at me. "But she can't be Tristen. There has to be something wrong with the name. A mix up or something."

I shook my head again, disagreeing with him.
