Amy and Penny had breakfast at a nearby cafe. Penny thought their conversation would be filled with awkward pauses and forced smiles, but Amy was a pretty interesting person. Though they didn't talk about fashion, celeb gossip or just badmouthing others, Penny felt like a whole new person whose life someone genuinely took interest in as Amy listened patiently while she told her about her life and even her worries.
'Hey, it's 9.' Amy shot a nervous look at Penny.
'Ohh, Um, guess we better go up.' Penny said, eyes on her iced latte as she got up.
The pair held hands as they went up to Sheldon's apartment floor. Amy felt a warm electric charge run down her arm. It was practically the first human contact she'd had with a friend. The last one she could remember was Kayla back in middle school, but then again it was a slap and the feeling definitely wasn't mutual.
Penny rang the doorbell.
'Hello? ' Missy smiled when she spotted Penny. 'Oh hey! Why are you here?'
'Um, is Sheldon in?'
'Yeah well but he's locked himself in his room for the past hour. SHELLY! ' Missy yelled.
'I don't feel so good!' He yelled back.
'No time for cold feet, Sheldon. ' Missy said, looking at Penny and Amy seriously. She knew what was up. And she was aware how her brother always reacted in such situations.
'It's alright, we can go.' Amy said nervously. She knew she didn't have a chance anyway. Cmon, who would pick dull old Amy over beautiful blond Penny?
But Penny squeezed Amy's hand. 'We'll wait here.'
Nine minutes and a lot of whining later, Sheldon finally emerged.
'I've been drawing up a pros -and -cons list.' Sheldon said truthfully.
'Have you come to a decision? ' Amy asked, licking her dry lips.
'Well, the hour is up. And well... ' Sheldon rubbed his temples. God, that is so adorable, Amy couldn't help but think. 'I actually have.'
'So...? ' Missy prodded. She knew she had no business in this but it was so exciting to see 2 eligible girls trying to get her nerdy brother. It was almost funny, if it wasn't so serious.
'I choose...
The girls went silent, but thoughts were crowding in their head a million a second.
He won't pick me, he'll pick Amy, but that doesn't matter, I mean, there are cute boys in school. Cuter.
I should just leave, I'm embarrassing myself already by thinking I have a chance.'Amy. '
The girls looked at each other, speechless, until reality sank in.
'Congrats, Ames. ' Penny said genuinely.
'Thank you, I... ' Amy blushed.
'So yes, Amy, I will go to the dance with you. ' Sheldon clarified, mistaking Amy's stunned silence as confusion.
'Thank you, Sheldon. ' Amy decided it would be best to ask why he'd chosen her when they were out of Penny's sight. She didn't want to upset her best friend but she was just so curious.
'Aren't you going to ask why?' Sheldon prodded.
'Um. It's alright Sheldon. ' Amy said genuinely. '
'No wait. I do want to know. ' Penny smiled.
'Well, Amy and I are almost on the same level in the intelligence spectrum. And if I have to be honest, she looks rather fine when she's all dolled up. I mean, not Penny-pretty, but still. ' Sheldon said. 'And well, I feel good when I'm around Amy. Not that I don't around you, but I understand her better, I guess.'
