You turn away from me. "I'm more trouble than I'm worth. I don't get why people try to pursue me when I don't deserve it. They spend all that time and energy on. . . me when they could use that energy for something better."
I gaze out at the valley spread before us as you look up at the clouds drifting across the sky. I hesitate before saying, "It's like walking up a hill to look at the view compared to climbing a mountain to see the view. Sure, maybe it's harder, but it's worth it. You're worth it."
You turn slightly to look at me. "Do you really believe that? All of my problems just for—" You gesture to yourself.
I walk over and take your hand. "Why would I lie to you? I'd rather climb a mountain to get to your heart than easily walk into someone else's. You're so beautiful."
You lower your gaze to our combined hands. "I feel like I don't deserve you."
I gently lead you to the edge of the mountain. "Do you see that?"
You look out at the world spread before us. "See what?"
"Everything. I wouldn't have seen it without you."
You suddenly grab me and bury your face in my shoulder. "Thank you."
I wrap my arms around you to hold you close. "You don't need to thank me."
Your fingers clutch at my shirt. "I—I love you."
I close my eyes, enjoying the feeling of your love surrounding me and the feeling of being so high up with you. "I love you too."
