Elphaba looked at her watch. It was 7:55.
'Right about now,' Elphaba thought, 'Glinda will be on her way home to find out i'm not there. Oh, Glin, i wish i could be there.'
Tears rolled down Elphaba's cheeks. "Ow," she muttered as the water stung her cheek and left marks where they had been.
Elphaba took the two necklaces she wore out from under her dress. One was the best friend necklace Glinda gave her on Christmas eve so long ago.
The other was her mother's locket, something her father had given her on that same Christmas. In fact, that was the first Christmas of many that Glinda had spent with her family.
The tears only grew stronger thinking about Glinda, and Elphaba feared that if she didn't stop, some major problems would occur.
"Elphaba?" A voice asked from across her stall.
Elphaba quickly rehid her necklaces and pulled her sleeve over her watch.
"It is you!" The female voice laughed.
Elphaba crept closer to the door. "Madame Morrible?"
"Yes, my dear, it's me. And look at you. They finally caught you after...how long has it been?" Madame Morrible responded.
Elphaba looked at her. She was extremely dirty and her eyes were the eyes of a mad woman. "A year." Elphaba answered.
"Ah. You look pathetic. Look at those tear stains. What was it that i told you a long time ago? You musn't get wet my dear."
"You don't look so good yourself," Elphaba retorted. "And, besides, i came back to Oz on my own doing."
"So, you came back for Glinda. Couldn't stay long without your lover."
"Lover! Ew, no. We're just friends. Two good friends. Two BEST friends," Elphaba answered.
"Hmm. So, did you fly here?" Madama Morrible asked, suddenly interested in her powers.
"Why do you want to know?"Elphaba snarled.
Suddenly, the Gale Force came in. "Miss Thropp, it is time for you to go to a trial in Oz."
Elphaba reluctantly stood up and followed the soilders towards the exit.
"Good luck. You're going to need it," Madame Morrible called.
"Thanks to you," Elphaba said.
Her jaw was set and her face was emotionless. It was the face of the witch, and Elphaba thought maybe that would only make her appear more like a witch to the Ozians.
'It's not like i can smile." She thought.
Just as they opened the door, she changed her face.
Now, all the feelings she held inside, showed. Anger, hurt, sadness, and worst of all, fear. Fear for her life and fear for Glinda. And now she looked as vulnerable as this Wicked witch really was.
The door opened to thousands of booing Ozians.
