After some careful thought and reading your responses, I think I'm going to try to participate in NaNoWriMo this year. Unfortunately, it means I'll have to pause The Goblin's Heir for now so I can focus on the NaNoWriMo project, but we'll resume regular weekly updates once it's completed. I think I'm going to set the restarting date to December 11th, though I may change it depending on how I'm feeling after NaNoWriMo ends. If I feel like I need a break, then I'll leave it on the 11th, if not I may come back a few days sooner. We'll see!

For those that don't know, NaNoWriMo is a challenge for writers where they must try to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. You can't start writing until November first and it ends on the last day of November. For more info, you can check out the official website here: https://nanowrimo.org/

I know this break isn't exactly going to sit well with some of you, but I'm hoping you might enjoy my NaNoWriMo project enough that the wait for the next chapter of The Goblin's Heir won't feel so bad.

I'll be posting the chapters of my project here as I go so you can read along as I'm writing it. My daily goal is going to be around 2000 words at least so I should be updating often. I encourage you to spam the comment section in each chapter as your feedback has always helped keep me motivated. I don't care if it's just random emoji's I read and love every single comment. They are fuel to me.

Anyway, without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the project. I am calling it "A Magic of Many Colors," for now. I may change it later if I can think of something better.

Here's the synopsis:

The world was full of magic until it was not.

When the young Empress of Aurora suddenly died a century ago, so too did the world's magic. Since then, the ghost of that power has been slowly fading away from the bloodlines of the empire's nobility with each generation, growing duller like the once vivid colors that paint every building within the city of Prism. Most families are but pale imitations of what they once were and those still possessing powerful abilities are few and treasured.

The Salazars' power has faded to a mere trickle.

Now, the responsibility of marrying well has fallen on the shoulders of Felix Salazar's well-tailored suit. Despite him having no ability whatsoever, his family has somehow managed to arrange his marriage to the widowed and older daughter of the prominent Van Brandt family, which boasts several powerful magicians within their bloodline.

His bride to be, however, is mediocre at best both in looks and ability, and to make matters worse, she refuses to speak to him.

The tragic death of her first husband has seemingly left her mute.

Felix quickly learns to ignore his incredibly quiet and strange new wife and focuses on enjoying the life of an aristocrat's husband, contenting himself with spending his new family's oodles of money. Until...the night he finally hears her speak.

And when she does, her voice is like fire and brimstone, as startling and vivid as the red of her family color.

Magic, she reveals, is not just fading with time. Someone...some...thing is stealing it and finding their identity may also lead to that of her first husband's killer. With all of the power she contains, Eleonora Van Brandt means to take back everything the thief has stolen, but with one dead husband already beneath her belt, Felix isn't too sure helping her would prove good for his health let alone this new marriage.

I really hope that you'll enjoy this story and want to kill me a little less. The characters of Felix and El have been running around in my head for a while and I can't wait to reveal their story to you all.  I'm especially looking forward to building up the world they live in. It's a matriarchal society and each family uses a specific color to identify members of their House and mark territory. Felix's family, the Salazar's, for example, use black, while the Van Brandt's use red. The setting has an Edwardian, early 1900s feel, but with some more modern technologies as well. I was inspired by the old illustrated advertisements.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo not only to challenge myself but to improve my abilities, especially my time management. I hope you understand my decision and will enjoy this little detour. When we return, we'll be hurtling towards the end of The Goblin's Trilogy. Prepare thine hearts.

I'm sorry for the cliffhanger by the way.
