Sunday morning came and went with us going to the local church service that most of the town went to. It was quiet; a nice man, that I later learned was named Pastor Andrews, led the service. He had came and talked to Adam and I before we headed out to lunch and asked all about my career, which I didn't mind, especially from him, but it was a little weird talking about such things in this town. I felt like everyone was listening, trying to catch my words as they fall from my mouth. It happened every time the subject of my singing came up or when I got asked for a picture. I didn't mind it but it does set in awkwardly.
After church, Adam and I head over to a little restaurant he knew no one would be at.
"They all go to the fish camp," He had said.
So, currently, we're here at this little restaurant off of the main road called 'Sit Right Down' . It's a sandwich shop that Adam use to eat at a lot and works there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We just got here since we walked and took our time talking as we walked.
Our conversations come so freely and easily, once we get on a subject, it leads to another, barely breaking off but when it does, I don't mind it. The silence is still welcoming, and it's always a comfortable silence with him.
I take a seat across from Adam and sigh. Almost at the same time, a girl in her early twenties emerges from the kitchen wiping her hands on a dish towel.
"Hey guys! Welcome," She says in an evident country accent. She sounded like she was from Tennessee. As she gets a look at us, her smile broadens and she pauses on Adam. "Took you long enough to get home, Dixie."
"Erin," Adam smiles, and stands quickly, maneuvering around the table and hugging her shortly. "I missed you."
"Missed you too," She laughs and ruffles his hair playfully. It strikes me quickly that they have more of a brother-sisterly bond than what he and Mackenzie had. "Who's this? I mean- I know who you are but I haven't been introduced properly."
She nudges Adam's side. By this time, I'm already up and in front of them both.
"I'm Taylor," I say. "So nice to meet you."
"To you too. I'm a huge fan. Actually went to the Fearless tour a couple of years back when I spent a couple of summers back in Nashville."
"Erin's from there originally," Adam explains and I nod. Sounds about right. She had the accent down, at least.
"'Til I moved out here and met this idiot in high school," She teases, then looks over from me to Adam. "So, what brings you two out of the public eye so soon? Romantic getaway? ...to his boring little hometown?"
"How'd you know we were together?" The words fall from my lips before I can think it through.
"I may live in the middle of nowhere but I'm not totally out of the loop. I watch TV, and you two are still the top story. Plus the whole town has frenzied since word got around that little Adam Dixon is dating The Taylor Swift."
"The," i raise my eyebrows at Adam and grin. He laughs quietly. We both knew I was going to pull this on him later.
"Erin," He scolds, hardly an ounce of seriousness to back up his words.
"So how'd y'all meet?" She asks. "Mutual friend, club, meet and greet, party. Ooh, does he run a fan blog?""
I laugh at that and Adam blushes a deep red.
"We kind of had a mutual friend but we met at a party, yeah," He says, a look of knowing passes between us, like our own personal secret and it doesn't go unnoticed. Erin watches the looks between us and holds her hands up.
"Okay, I wanna hear about how you two met but let me get you guys some drinks first," She nods to me.
"Do you have sweet tea?" I ask, sitting down once again.
"Do I have sweet tea? Yes, of course I do, I'm from the South," She says and we laugh. "Dixie?"
"Dr. Pepper." He grins.
"Haven't changed a bit. Alright, here's y'all's menus, I'll be right back with your drinks," She says then scurries off behind the kitchen door.
Adam leans forward and places his hands across the table on mine. A small smile sets on his lips and my heart starts beating quicker. He looks so cute today in his dress-shirt and tie, his hair nicely slicked up to a point. Everything about him made me giddy with excitement for what might happen next.
"You're so beautiful," He says, almost mimicking my thoughts on him. I blush and decide that overall, messing with my chipping nail polish was a better option than meeting his stare.
"Stop it," I laugh, risking a side glance up at him. Like I expected, his head is tilted at an angle and his smile covers his cheeks. It warms my heart to see him like this.
"Make me," He taunts, raising his eyebrows in emphasis. I roll my eyes.
"Well aren't you two cute." Erin cuts in and I instinctively lose my gaze on Adam to examine my fingernails again. "About how you two met."
Adam goes into the long explanation for me and besides a couple details I add in and a laugh or two, I zone out. Erin was nice, yeah, but she just came off a little weird to me. I guess she's just protective, which I get. I get protective over anyone dating Austin, it's more suspicion though that they want something from him. And Austin is smart but also extremely kind-hearted. He'd fall for someone and get too caught up to see the things going wrong. That is understandable with Erin as well.
After awhile of talking and eating, Adam and I head back to the house. There was nothing to do around town so Adam suggested television which would've been good had the channel not been set on E!. According to what kept repeating, they said we seen at the airport about a week ago, which was correct, but that we were headed to some Caribbean island for a "romantic getaway", which we laughed at. This place is no where near their assumptions or what we are doing here.
The rest of the day is relaxed, calm. We watch a few movies before I gently let myself succumb to sleep to the sound of Adam's heartbeat to my ear.
