Silence surrounded us as the car sped its way towards the facility. Our brain too shunned and shocked to engage in a conversation. Lost in our thoughts revolving around the incident that took place minutes ago crowded our brain. Scenes passed outside the window and so does our thoughts. Brian hands tightly clutched the steering wheel, his eyebrows creased, Michael sitting beside me constantly stared down, his eyes fixated at one spot, while Noah stared out of the window. Sean was scared and kept adjusting himself on his seat, rearranging his tie, he wiped the sweat off his forehead. It was silent, but the pressure inside the car felt claustrophobic.
The conversation that threw us off the board.
"You took you time," Maria said.
"Maria?" That was the only thing I could utter, my whole body cold, my brain stopped working as I saw her right in front of me.
She just smiled at quietly got up, adjusting her scarf in a mirror on the wall, while we stood there at one spot too scared to move, too shocked to comprehend the situation, she signalled us to come in.
We broke out the trance, and our posture went to alert mode, our head-clearing, my hand knuckled in a fist, twisting my wrist a little to the left, I clutched the blade which was hidden in my sleeve, my fingers wrap around it so she couldn't see.
Looking at Brian, he nodded at me, walking in with confidence, not letting her see the nervousness we gathered inside. My eyes scanned the room. The door closed behind with a thud. Turning my head slightly I saw a heavily built guy standing right behind us, and another standing in another corner. My eyes making quick notes about the guys and how they looked. Scanning the walls, everything seemed normal.
Too normal. But I couldn't fail to notice the faint blink of light coming from behind the vase placed on the nightstand.
"Recording the conversation now, are we?" I said, my head tilted slightly to the left staring directly in the eyes of Maria.
"Precautions," She said with a smile.
"Drink?" She said walking towards the mini-refrigerator.
"What do you want, Maria?" Brian said, his voice heavy, stern, intimidating.
"What's the hurry?" She replied without turning back.
We all chose to not reply, our eyes like a hawk, watching every move of her. She turned around, her handheld a cigarette, taking a drag she blew out a puff of smoke.
"Wanna know who killed your parents?" She said taking another drag.
My whole body chilled when she threw the question at me. Everyone wanted to know, not just know, wanted to bring them down.
"What do you mean? What do you know?" I asked taking a step towards her.
"I can get you to them." She said smirking. Her voice laced in malice, her eyes red with smoke.
"And why would you do that?" Noah asked.
"Because of you, I will get to them," She said as if stating the obvious.
"So, you need our help," Brian said. His eyes analysing.
"Help?" She laughed. The laugh that chilled the whole room. "You were always in the plan," She said smiling.
We all looked at each other confused. It did not make sense.
She laughed again before she stubbed the cigarette and chucking it off in the ashtray.
