Chapter 14

"Hey, Sonic, I got you a cell phone. This is going to make things a lot easier." Chris said. Sonic takes the phone with a frown "Oh, really?" "Yeah, don't you see? Now we'll be able to reach each other right away, even when you're on a run. We can talk anywhere now. No sweat." Sonic moans while Chris resumes talking "Now make sure you leave it on." Life looks up from her sketchbook "Chris I don't think Sonic likes the phone..." He looks at her "What do you mean Life?" She gives him a look "Seriously? You don't notice his body language?" The door opens making Chris turn to it ignoring Life. She sighs going back to her drawing. Tails spoke, "Hey, Chris, it's time to get going." Sonic blinks "Huh?" Amy crosses her arms walking towards him "We've been waiting outside for you." Chris blushes "Oops, I forgot." Sonic moves forward "Where are you guys going?" Amy smiles "Now that we can go out in public, we're heading to Station Square to go shopping. We've spent weeks hunting down Chaos Emeralds, but now it's time to do some bargain hunting, so I'm going to shop 'til I drop." She crosses her arms again looking at him "There's no point waiting for you to take me because I don't even know where you are most of the time. Huh? *She spots Sonic holding a phone* She squeals "Oh! We can stay connected all the time!" Sonic gives her the phone making her confused "No thanks, Ames. But have fun shopping though" Then he runs away making Chris shout "Wait, Sonic! What about your cell phone?" He comes back with a smug look "Leave a message for me." He runs off again making Life start laughing while Tails shrugs "I guess he wants to be left alone." Amy shouts "But why can't he be left alone with me?" Life stops laughing and smiles at Amy "Don't worry Amy, he'll come around. Remember what I said back at home" She sighs "Yeah, I know... I just wish it was now..." Chris looks at them confused. "Um? What are you talking about?" Life smirks "You'll find out someday."

(Sonic X theme song played)

In the car on the freeway to Station Square, Chris frowns looking at the phone that was supposed to be Sonic's. "I don't understand why Sonic doesn't want me calling him?" Amy frowns "Unfortunately, Sonic is the kind of guy who needs a lot of privacy." Manic scoffs "Say's the one who annoys him the most" Life, Lilly, Cream, Cookie, and Sonia's eyes go wide at that. Tails shouted "Manic! You shouldn't have said that!" "Yeah, even I know not to say that to her!" Anthony exclaimed. "What? Oh......" Amy starts to glare and growl at him. She summons her hammer and wacks him in the head with it leaving a mark. Chris turns his head at the commotion "Guys! This is serious! What'll we do if there's an emergency? Without a phone, we don't have a way to reach him." Tails turned to him "Don't worry, Chris. No matter where Sonic is, he has a way of showing up when he has to." "Are you sure?" They all smile except Manic who is out cold "Count on it!" He smiles but then frowns at Manic. "Uh... He'll be okay right?" Life nods "Yep, I'm healing him as we speak" He nods and smiles.

The limo nears its final destination, the Station Square Shopping Center. The mall is packed but that didn't stop them from having a great time. Ella holds up two new outfits for Cream and Cookie, while Cheese and Bubblegum bounce on a pile of folded shirts. Life and Lilly are wandering around the store looking for something that sparks their eye while Anthony and Manic are trying not to cause trouble. Amy and Sonia are trying on different outfits in the fitting room, but stop when they notice everyone staring at them. All but one of the shoppers flee. Amy is disappointed while Sonia looks uncomfortable. Meanwhile, Chris and Tails are looking at a new toy, a panda action figure called Pandam.

Chris gasps excitedly "I found it! I really wanted this." Tails not so excited looks to the side and starts to feel a bit uncomfortable. "Hey Chris, look..." he looks up to see that they are surrounded by shoppers and they are all staring. Chris blinks "Are we the center of attention?" "I feel uncomfortable." Tails suddenly said then falls as a young boy grabs Tails' twin tails and shows him to his mother. "I want this one. Can we buy it, Mommy?" The mother snatches her son away and turns to him "I'm very sorry. *Then she runs up to another woman and whispers to her* He's the real deal! I saw him up close. What should I do?" The woman scoffs "Go up to it and make it say something!" Chris walks up and looks at him apologetically "Tails, are you all right?" Tails looked at him embarrassed and chuckled slyly.
