Chapter Nine

Alyssa stared into the darkened eyes of the Alpha King,

"I think we need to talk." He said in a dangerous voice.

Alyssa held her breath as he stood up and walked closer to her. She didn't want to back down in submission but she also didn't want to challenge him.

Alyssa began to back up with every step Jordan took until she was pressed up against the wall. She wasn't expecting that so she gasped as her back hit the wall.

Jordan's eyes were flooded with black and gold specs. Alyssa's eyes moved up and down his body on instinct and said to him,

"Ya know, there are 13 different ways I can get out of this. 6 don't injure you, 5 will cause bearable amounts of pain and 2 will mortally wound you."

Jordan stared at her with wide eyes and asked,

"What happened to you?"

Her eyes flickered with memory and she finally looked away from him.

"What did you want to talk about?" Alyssa asked quietly, changing the subject.

Jordan sighed, knowing full well she wanted to change the subject and asked,

"Who was that out there with you?"

"You don't wanna know." She said in a quiet voice.

"Oh but I do." He whispered in her ear.

"Josh." She muttered.

"Your brother? How'd he'd get past my guards?"

"It's a secret." She said slyly.

Jordan growled aloud and said,

"Tell me."

"No." Alyssa said.

He turned away from her and grabbed a nearby vase and threw it at the wall.

She flinched as she remembered Paxton's anger. Jordan turned back around and noticed the fear in her eyes.

"Alyssa?" He asked softly.

She didn't look up so he went to touch her forearm, which landed him on the ground....again.

Jordan let the air out of his lungs when he landed on the ground and Alyssa shrank back against the wall.

She slid down the wall until she hit the floor. Jordan, who just regained air in his lungs, went to go sit by her. He pulled her into his lap and ignored her flinch.

He stroked her hair and she fell back asleep.

Ryder whimpered at the sight of their mate but soon enough, they fell asleep too.
