When Jordan woke up, Alyssa was gone and he started to panic until he heard her voice outside his door.

"...Josh was here?" Another voice asked.

"Yeah, also you went against one of dad's direct orders, do you have a death wish?" Alyssa said, and Jordan heard that she whacked the voice he now recognized as Xavier's.

"I thought the mission was a suicide run, and let's be honest if he wasn't your mate you'd probably be dead right now."

Alyssa stayed quiet and Jordan knew Xavier was right. He set the trap for Alyssa, knowing he was probably going to kill her.

"I just wanted to let you know...also don't tell Jordan but I'm pretty sure one of dad's goons is here in the palace."

"What?!" Jordan roared, opening the door.

"Good luck with that Alyssa." Xavier said, before fleeing down the corridor.

Alyssa bit her bottom lip as she turned around. She gave him an award-winning smile and said,

"Jordan. Let's be reasonabl-" Alyssa didn't finish. Jordan threw her over his shoulder and began to walk down the stairs.

"Jordan!" Alyssa said, somewhere between a giggle and a squeal.

"I've linked everyone in the palace for a mandatory meeting...you my queen, are going to identify this traitor."

"I haven't met everybody my father knows." Alyssa said coolly.

"Aren't you his right hand?"

"No, that was either Josh or Carter...maybe the twins, I was just his best warrior, a Delta at most." Alyssa said truthfully.

"Well, you are scouting anyway...we'll call it a meet the future Alpha Queen."

Alyssa started to squirm again and said,

"I am not queen."

"Yes you are." Jordan said with a huff. "I'm Alpha King which makes you Alpha Queen or Luna Queen if you prefer."

"I prefer not dying at my father's hands." Alyssa mumbled.

Jordan froze.

"What?" He asked in a low voice.

"Uhhh....meet the Alpha Queen here we come." Alyssa said, almost hopeful.

"No no no, you said 'I'd rather not die at my father's hands'"

"Prefer." Alyssa corrected, "I prefer not to die at my father's hands."

Jordan put Alyssa down so he could look her in the eye.

"You are safe here. Your father can't get you."

Alyssa scoffed. Actually freaking scoffed and said,

"You underestimate my father." She sighed and shook her head explaining, "He'll find us both, maybe tomorrow or maybe in ten years but he will. Once captured he'll let us say our heartfelt goodbyes. He'll kill you first and make me watch. He'll make me watch as your heart is being ripped from your chest, then he'll leave me to rot in a silver cell the rest of my days. That is who my father really is."

Jordan let out a low growl and pulled Alyssa into his chest.

"Right now, he thinks I'm being kept prisoner but once he knows that I have a choice not to return...I'd hate to imagine." Alyssa said into Jordan's chest which caused him to pull her closer.

"How do you know?"

"He did it to my brother." Alyssa said with a shrug.

"Josh?" Jordan asked, confused.

"No, Tyler. His mate Crystal was a close friend of mine and he did all that to her except he let Tyler live in his room. We all had to watch and couldn't do anything unless we wanted to suffer the same fate."

"I'm sorry Alyssa." Jordan said.

"It's not your fault...he is who he is."

Jordan looked at her with concerned filled eyes before sighing and continuing to the ballroom where meetings took place.

"Wait." Alyssa said.

Jordan turned back to her and she jogged up to him pulling something out of her jacket.

She palmed her engraved Wilder ring and took his hand saying,

"Will you wear this for me?"

He looked confused and asked,

"Why? What is it?"

"It's my Wilder mark." Alyssa explained, "You've heard of it correct?"

"Yeah, but isn't it for protection?" Jordan asked

"Yes."

"I can protect myself." Jordan argued

"And I'm saying you shouldn't have to...please." Alyssa said, throwing him her best puppy dog eyes.

Jordan rolled his eyes with a grin and said,

"Fine, give me the ring."

Alyssa slid the ring onto his pinky finger and said,

"Thank you. At least now I know the twins can't get to you."

"Why do you address them as 'the twins'?"

"They don't deserve to be called by name." Was all Alyssa said before bouncing off to the ballroom.
