Clary's POV
The air is rushing past me as I sprint down the corridor. I have no idea where I am going but it needs to be fast; my phone is still ringing. I find a open door on the second go, dive and shut the door. I quickly answer the phone and put it up to my ear, panting for air, "Simon?",
"Clary? Where are you? And why are you gasping for air? Are you alright?" he says in a worried tone,
"I'm fine I just had to run a bit to get some privacy to talk to you",
"Okay but where are you, I'm at Java Jones" he asks,
"Oh, sorry Simon I totally forgot, today has been a whirlwind of activity and I got a but caught up in stuff",
"Are you crying? Its not that big of a deal, we can have coffee another time!" he says,
"I no, its not that. Actually I have to go, I while talk to you later" I say as Jace enters the room,
"Okay, I hope every thing is alright" Simon asks still with his worried voice,
"Bye",
"Bye" he says, I hang up. Jace flicks on the switch and the room is illuminated , he then walks across the room and sits beside me without a word. I rest my head on his shoulder and we just sit of a minute until he asks, "What happened back their?"I continue on to recount what Maryse thought, 'Izzy thinks she can bring home any loony she wants, creating new runes, what unrealistic bullshit. Telepathic communication? Really? Am I supposed to fall for that? I'm surprised she has managed to convince my kids, I thought they were more intelligent!', Jace just looks gobsmacked, surprised and infuriated,
"She just insulted you, your abilities, your mental health, and our intelligence in a few sentences, she is the crazy one!", "How could she be so wrong? Why would you think such awful things, when someone was reading your mind?",
"Maybe it was a test, and I failed by breaking down and running away." I suggest. I start to wonder how much Jace has changed since the first time I met him, he was rude and obnoxious and now he is sweet and caring, it really seems like he cares about me,
"Don't be silly." Jace says. The door swings open and Alec and Izzy run through,
"Why are you guys in Jace's room?" asks Alec, for the first time I actually look at my surroundings and notice that I am sitting in a very neat and plain bedroom,
"I don't know what to say, my room is just a magnet to girls, obviously" smirks Jace, receiving a thwack on the arm from both Izzy and me.I recount the whole story again, with Jace rubbing my back and Izzy rubbing my arm. Everybody is shocked, nobody was really expecting to hear what I heard. Jace says, "I think we need to get out of here and get some food, why don't we go to Taki's?" Alec and Izzy nod and I just go along with it, having never heard of the place. Sneak down the halls, not wanting to draw attention to ourselves and we stand in the elevator in silence just contemplating what has just happened.
Jace grasps my hand and we walk out of the institute grounds and I say, "I'm sure your brother and your mother are lovely people, I obviously just caught them at the wrong moment",
"Yeah something like that" was all Alec could muster. Alec and Izzy walked ahead of Jace and I, chit chatting about the situation, they seem pretty angry. Jace is in deep thought as well so I'm really just left on my own. Its about 5 o'clock, nearly sundown, golden hour, I nudge Jace and point at the sun starting to slowly set, he smiles and kisses my forehead, today was a rough day for him, it really didn't go as he would have likes it to. Then I see the sign for 'Taki's' and I feel my stomach grumble, I hadn't realised how hungry I was until now. An 'ifrit' (I think that's the spelling), a warlock without its powers, as explained by Jace, is standing at the door like a bouncer, I guess it's a shadow world diner, this could be interesting. The diner is alive with activity, waiters rushing around delivering food to the hungry vampires, werewolves, faeries, warlocks and shadowhunters sitting in booths that edge the room. We find an empty one and sit down. Jace notices me looking around with worried eyes, "Hey, don't worry, they won't hurt you! Taki's is a strictly pleasant place, if you cause trouble, you're out." he says,
"I'm not really worried about that its just not everyday you see vampires and werewolves, especially not in a room with faeries and warlocks. Its all just quite new" I reply, "what is there to eat anyway? I can see raw meat and blood being drunk out of wine glasses but by any chance is there human food?" I say with a giggle,
"Here, you're holding the back of the menu, flip it over" Alec advises, so I flip it over to find a whole host of delicious foods, I settle on a chicken burger and fries. Kaelie the faerie girl comes and takes our orders and has a chat with us, she seems to be eyeing how close Jace an I are sitting, awkward! "So how are we going to deal with all of this?" Izzy starts,"Mum thinks your a crazy person who is trying to suck us into your world! She is delusional! How are we supposed to face her?",
"We could act like it never happened?" I suggest, knowing it wasn't a great idea,
"Oh yeah and she will think you brainwashed us to think it really didn't happen." Alec says,
"Okay maybe not. We could just talk it out with her, try and get her to understand the real Clary" says Jace,
"Okay, but what if that doesn't work?" Izzy questions,
"We shouldn't think about a plan b until we really need one" says Alec, and I agree. Kaelie comes back over with our food and we eat in relative silence. This is one hell of an awkward situation.
