Chapter 5
Y/n's POV
This is when they raised the price of the papers.

They put up the headline and my jaw dropped.

"I-" Was all that came out of my mouth.

"I'm gonna be sleepin' on da' streets!" Crutchie says.

"You already sleep on da' streets" I respond.

"In a worse neighborhood"

"You're right"

"Hey! What are y'all waitin' around here for?" Jack said.

"Hey Jack get a load of this" Crutchie showed Jack the headline.

"Papes for da' newsies!" Wiesel shouted.

"Hey relax it's gotta be a gag" Jack said while chuckling.

"Hey good joke Weasel, I'll take a hundred be on my way"

"100 will cost ya' 60"

"I ain't payin' no 60"

"Then make way for someone who will"

"You bet, me and the fellas will take a hike over to da' Journal"

"Hey hey hey, I'll save ya' da' walk. They used their price too" Specs said.

"Then we'll take our business to da' Sun!"

"Same all around town. New day, new price"

"Hey, hey! Why the jack-up?"

"Well for them kind of answers, you gotta ask further up the food chain"

Jack went to sit on a pile of papes.

"Come here, fellas. Get over here. Come on. They can't just do that can they?" Jack said.

"Why not? It's their paper!" Racetrack shouted.

"It's their world" Crutchie muttered.

"Ain't we got no rights?" A newsie in the crowd said.

"We got the right to starve! Let's just get our papes and hit the streets while we still can" Crutchie said angrily. I haven't seen him this angry ever.

Then everybody started arguing for a sec until Jack interrupted.

"Hey, hey. Nobody's is paying no new nothing."

"You got an idea?" Racetrack retorted.

"Would you keep your shirt on? Let me think this through"

Then everyone started arguing again until Les pushed everyone away from Jack.

"STOP CROWDING HIM! LET THE MAN WORK IT OUT!" Les shouted.

After a few seconds Les asked Jack "Hey Jack, ya' still thinkin'?"

"Sure he is, can't you smell smoke?" Racetrack said while laughing.
