Chapter 5. Physical Education

Mikan's Pov

Hotaru told me that Narumi Sensei is my Language arts and History teacher, while Jinno Sensei was my Math and Science. But I haven't had science yet, right now I was walking by myself through the halls holding my textbooks in my arms and was heading to gym class, 3rd period. I opened the doors to the gym and stepped in. It was a big gym with volleyball nets all set up. I set my bag and textbooks on the floor where everyone else's stuff were. The coach saw me and said "you, new girl, come here!" I nervously walked to the overweight lady and stood beside her. "So what's your name, huh? tell the class." "U-um my name is M-Mikan Sakura, nice to meet you." I said giving everyone a bow.

The girls in the bleachers looked at me with disgust. I saw Luna and Sumire in the middle of the bleachers giving me a death glare. And Hotaru, thank god I wasn't alone. "Well, Sakura, my name is Coach Yama and here are your gym clothes." The lady said handing me a bundle of blue and white colored clothes. I grabbed them and Coach Yama said "alright girls, get changed and get ready to do some stretches and play some volleyball!" Then she used her whistle and walked off.

I followed the girls to the locker room but Anna, followed by Nonoko and Hotaru walked up to me and asked "do you wanna do stretches with me? I really would like to be friends and so would Nonoko too." Behind her Nonoko nodded smiling at me. With Hotaru giving me a gentle expression in her eyes. I nodded yes and Anna and Nonoko cheered, "yay, a new friend!" I giggled and all four of us went inside the locker rooms to change.

Inside the locker room it smelled of sweat and perfume combined and I almost gagged. i had to cover up my name with my hands and Nonoko said "I know Mikan it smells really bad in here, but you'll get used to it." I nodded and took my hands away from covering my nose, hoping I would get used to the nasty smell soon. As I put on my gym clothes in the corner, I heard Luna call out "eww, what's that horrible nasty smell," "I thinks it's coming from over there," Sumire giggled pointing in my direction. I looked at where she was pointing and sure enough she meant me.

"Eww, you need to take a shower, oh but I bet you can't since your parents didn't pay the water bill," Luna howled. At that point I was bubbling with anger, my mom always took care of me and grandpa and worked extra hard to get the money as a nurse.

Anna, Nonoko and Hotaru stood next to me and Anna said "pu-lease you need to wash that clown face of yours with all that horrible makeup!" "Yeah and you need to shut that little mouth of yours or your gonna have it!" Yelled Nonoko at Sumire and glinted her eyes at Hotaru, while Hotaru got her Baka Gun ready to shoot the two idiot girls.

The two girls flinched at the sight of Hotaru with her Baka gun and gulped. "W-well why are you two standing up for that stupid ugly poor girl?" Yelled Sumire. "Y-yeah, you better stop or I'll tell my daddy on you!" Yelled Luna. "We stand up for her because she's our friend!" Yelled Nonoko confidently. Inside I teared up a little because girls I barely knew were already such good friends with me despite my appearance.

"S-shut up!" Yelled Luna lunging at me ready to scratch me. Hotaru was about to shoot her Baka Gun but someone stopped Luna before anything bad happened. It was Coach Yama, she had an angry expression and yelled "so, this was the commotion I heard from my office! You two girls are in huge trouble for bullying someone!" Then she grabbed Sumire, who's face was red from almost crying and she dragged the both of them to her office.

"Are you alright Mikan?" Asked Hotaru in a calm voice. "Yea," I replied quietly. "Thank you guys also, it means so much to me." "No problem, Mikan, we're friends remember!" Yelled Anna slapping my back. "Also hopefully Luna and Sumire will learn their lesson, Coach Yama gives really horrible punishments.

One time she made this girl run six days without stopping, and if she started to walk, jog or slow down she would give her another six days each time. The girl ended up running for one whole semester!" Said Nonoko. Hotaru nodded and said "yeah, I remember that,"

Once we got out of the locker rooms we headed out to the gym floor and started doing some stretches. We had to have partners for one of the stretches and my partner was with Anna, while Hotaru and Nonoko were partners.

After the stretches were finally over the gym teacher used her whistle and said "alright girls, make groups of six and you will practice some volleyball against another group. "Yes, m'am," we yelled back and started to get into groups of six.

Hotaru, Anna, Nonoko, two other girls and I were in a group. The six of us then went to one side of the nets and got ready to roll. The opposite team consisted of Luna, Sumire, and some of their Natsume and Ruka fan club members. I saw Luna and Sumire's faces and they were all red and blotchy from crying I guess. I laughed a little and I saw Luna glare at me with pure hatred in her eyes.

I gulped a little and one of the girls on the opposite team hit the ball over the net. The volleyball was heading straight for Anna about three meters away from me and I saw Anna crouched in fear of getting hit. I dove in for the ball and hit it barely making it go over the net. Which went straight for Luna but she missed hitting it landing on her face. Which made the people in her team except for Sumire to laugh out loud. After a while the everyone gave me a shocked look.

"That was amazing," said one of the girls on my team. "Yeah, good job Mikan!" Said Nonoko giving me a thumbs up. "Are you alright Anna?" I asked the pink haired girl. "Y-yeah, I'm okay, thank you for saving me." "No problem," I replied giving a wide grin to her. "You're surprisingly very athletic," said Hotaru calmly patting me on the shoulder. "Y-yeah, I guess, but I'm not sure if I'm that good," I said rubbing the back of my head embarrassed.

"Humph, shut it you guys, she wasn't that good, she was clumsy as heck." Said Luna who huffed and looked at her team. "No she wasn't, she was amazing! You're just jealous!" Cried out Nonoko. "Hah? Jealous? Pu-lease I could do way better that that freak you even call a girl!" Said Luna angrily. "Stop, please, don't fight now," I said getting in the middle of Nonoko and Luna.

"Hey! don't even come near me you ugly freak!" Yelled Luna. But I ignored her mean comment because in the corner of my eye I saw Hotaru putting her Baka Gun on her hand getting ready to shoot some idiots. "Luna, it's better if you stop!" Said Sumire grabbing Luna's arms. "What!? Why!? The ugly freak needs to be punished for embarrassing me!" "No! Coach Yama and Hotaru are getting ready to give us a beating!" Whimpered Sumire.

I looked over at Coach Yama and sure enough she was giving Luna and Sumire a death glare that looks as if it could kill. Luna gulped, paused as if she was thinking real hard, then said while pointing her finger at me "this isn't over yet, you ugly little freak. Don't forget that." I gulped in fear and saw Luna go over to the other teams to switch with us.

They agreed and we finally got to play a real game of volleyball.
