It was a cool afternoon, a very rare occasion in California. The sun was just starting to create a silk like fabric sky; with marigold, violet and sapphire all blending through the clouds that looked like folds in the soft material as the sun began to set. You sat cross-legged in a clearing by a pond not far from your house, watching the water change in colour with the sky, a near perfect reflection just with more ripples and the odd fish flowing by.

It was calm all around you, birds sweet songs distant from you and crickets rattle comforting - not disturbing your peace. The wind tickled your hair and made you shudder from its touch, the sleeves of your top pulled down over your hands as you brought them around yourself.

You'd seen a few other people on your way here, all getting in their own peaceful time outside after long days of working from home, their smiles soft if your eyes met theirs - in an understanding and appreciation of each others presents during what was going on in the world.

Behind you was were the path lead to, and you could hear another set of foot steps crunching the stones as they made their way up. They stopped somewhat abruptly once they were close, as if in thought or surprise. Curiosity got the better of you, as you turned you were met with a very tall figure, his eyes looking above you and towards the view you'd been admiring yourself, but soon they drifted down and met yours. His mouth was covered with a black plain mask but even with that, and beneath his circle rimmed glasses, you could tell his eyes squinted with a smile.

You smiled back instantly, your face clear from a covering since you were sat alone, your response warm as you were somehow already drawn to this guy who had been in your life for 0.5 seconds.

"Beautiful evening" he said after a few moments, still standing tall at the start of the path, looking back to the sky and the water with their matching tones.

"It really is, great weather too" you commented, going back yourself to the view, sighing lightly at the resting area.

"This is one of my favourite places to escape to, it always feels like a different plain of existence to the rest of the city" He continued to say, taking a step slightly closer.

You nodded, forgetting he probably wouldn't have seen it so quickly responded saying, "It does, especially when its cool like this and no one is around."

"This is going to sound really weird but you're actually sat in my normal spot. Do you mind if i sit here too? We can keep 6 metres apart if you sit one end of the patch and i on the other" The guy's cheeks lightly flushed, you'd turned around again as soon as he started talking and were soon nodding. You don't know what it was about him, if it had been anyone else you would have come up with an excuse for them not to. But here you were, now shuffling against the grass to get closer to the tall weeds that sat on one end of the patch, shoving your phone into your pocket so you wouldn't seem rude having it out if he wanted to talk. And thankfully, he did.

"Thanks! So, uh, What's your name? Feel like we should exchange that at least since i just crashed your alone time" he laughed slightly, he started to remove his mask, turning his head from you so he could put it into his back pocket. As he returned to facing you, your heart melted slightly at the sight of his dimpled and slightly rosy cheeks.
