the flight home was quite uneventful, nobody wanting to push your buttons. when you got back everyone went there separate ways, spencer waiting on you outside hotches door.

"reid." hotch says loud enough for him to hear. you stifle a giggle as he walks in the room. "sir?" he says in an elevated tone. he motions to the chair next to you, and spence sits in it.

he hands him a pamphlet on fraternization in the workplace, while he talks to you. "i know everyone has been asking you are you okay, so i won't ask you that. what i will ask is are you capable to come back to work? you've been out for a while now and strauss is on my ass about how long your paid leave has been. we've set you up with the therapist that we want you to see 4 times a week-"

you cut him off. "you want me to see a shrink?" he nods. "she's not bad , when haley died i had to see her, she's pretty nice." you roll your eyes. "hotch i don't need a shrink. i'm ready to come back, i've been off for way too long." he nods.

"i'm going to have to order you another psych evaluation, strauss' orders." you nod and start to get up. "oh and y/l/n?" "yes sir?" "congratulations, you and reid are perfect together." "thank you hotch." you say before walking out, spencer behind you.

"well that went okay?" he says and you nod. "yeah, okay." you walk in comforting silence to the car, and remain in it for a while until you realize this isn't the way to your apartment, or his.

there's no way he could have taken a wrong turn because the kid has an eidetic memory. "where are we going?" you ask, with no response. "spencer," you say in a sing song voice. "you'll know when we get there." he says and you pout. "i hate surprises reid." you say and you knew you touched a nerve. you only called him reid when you were upset at him and he knew that.
.................(spencer's pov)...............
shit. she only called me reid when she was mad at me. when everything happened with her sister, a woman by the name of kris called to pay her condolences. she kept it brief but she said that her and y/n grew up like sisters, that she was a virginia local and that we should stop by, that she would love to see her.

she gave me the address and that's where we're headed. i really wanted to surprise her, but i don't want her to be pissed at me. "well i was going to surprise you, but we're going to your friend kris' house." her eyes lit up like a christmas tree and that's when i knew that this was the right move.
.......(back to your pov).........
"how do you know kris?" she asked. "she called when we were in florida and said she lived in virginia too and really wanted to see you, so now we are going over her house for dinner." you nod and can't help the childish grin that appears on your face.

kris was your twin flame. when you attempted, she was there to clean and bandage your scars. when kris got pregnant right after high school, you were there every step of the way. "where does she live now?" you ask.

"in a little house not far from the chinese place we like, with her daughter who she said was 4 now." you gasp. "there's no way that maddie is four?" you say gasping. "did she send pictures?" you ask slapping his shoulder.

"don't slap me while i drive unless you wanna end up in a ditch," he says wagging a finger at you. "but you can see for yourself." he says putting the car in park. you didn't even notice that you passed the chinese place 10 minutes ago. you gulp.

he grabs your hand. "i'm right here." you nod and practically run to the door and knock to find it being thrown open. you stare at your bestfriend, who hasn't aged a day. you hug her so tight that her bones might break, but you didn't care.

you hug for what feels like ages before you hear "and you must be spencer." he gives a little wave. "wow crash you haven't aged a day." you laugh at her high school nickname for you. "ditto" you both giggle.

"damn girl i missed you." she says sighing and you do the same. "you have no idea." you say. she motions for the two of you to follow her into the living room and you trail behind her.

"crash?" spencer asks. you laugh "ill tell you about it one day." you say giggling. you hear little feet coming down the stairs followed by "auntie y/n is that you?" you grin from ear to ear, proud that she remembers you.

"hey honey!" you say as she runs to you, tripping over her own feet. "mommy said you were coming back and i drew you a picture." she says giving you a piece of paper with messily drawn people, most likely you and her.

you grin. "thank you sweetie, i love it." you say ruffling her hair. she giggles and you see that she's missing her front two teeth. you gasp. "when did that happen?" you say and she giggles. "it was last week, and the tooth fairy gave me two whole dollars!" she says, holding up two fingers. her eyes sparkled and you genuinely loved how kids got happy at the littlest things.
........(spencer pov)........
i loved how she acted with kids, it made me want to marry her on the spot. the little girl, maddie seemed so entranced with every word that came out of her mouth. she's gonna be an amazing mother, the way her entire personality shifts when she's around children amazes me.
.........(back to your pov)..........
"dinners ready?" you hear from the kitchen. "last one to the tables a rotten egg!" maddie says and you gasp when she starts running before you get off the floor. "cheater!" you yell as she makes it to the kitchen before you.

"okay children and spencer, come sit at the table please." kris says and you bust out laughing, taking a seat next to spencer. "so spencer," kris starts. "here we go" you groan. kris interrogated all of your boyfriends , it was habit.

"tell me about yourself." she says poking at her spaghetti. "well i hold three BA's in psychology, sociology and philosophy, three PhDs in mathematics, chemistry, and engineering, and IQ of 187 and an eidetic memory. also, i like books." he says and kris drops her fork.

"jesus y/n are you dating einstein?" kris asks, taken aback. "well actually einstein's iq was about 160, mine is 187 so i'm actually smarter than him." he says.

"you must be fun at parties." she says , playing with her fork. you snort. "the funniest." you say giggling. "do you like fairy princesses?" maddie asks and you laugh loudly. "fairy princesses are the best kind of princesses!" he exclaims making her giggle.

"okay auntie, i approve." she says and you nod. "that's great because if you didn't approve i'd have to kick him to the curb." you say pointing to spence." he scoffs." "you can keep him, i like him." she says and you high five her.

"yeah, you can keep him." kris agrees. you smile, glad that your second family liked him. "okay, we all done?" you ask and they all nod. "well these dishes aren't gonna wash themselves." kris says dragging you to the kitchen.

"you know we missed you on this side of town." kris says, playfully bumping your shoulder as you wash the dishes. "i missed you guys too" you say. you hear maddie giggling and look out into the living room to see spencer showing her some sort of magic trick. you can't help the grin that shows at your cheeks. "you know i haven't seen you smile like that since issac." ah, the married one. you cringe just thinking about how happy a married man made you.

"if he can make you smile like this, he's good in my book." she says. "yeah, i'll keep him around for a while." you say, watching him pull a coin out from behind her ear.
