Chapter 05

THE DUSK came for Brielle. Her whole day was rough as her first day in the palace arrived.

There is nothing discernible about the atmosphere outside the main hall gates, where the Emperor resides. Despite the fact that it still looks like autumn, the air is chilly but it's not winter, so it's wooshing around them. Because of the gloomy atmosphere, everything appears to be dying while also looking placating.

The leaves from the grand gardens and picturesque landscapes were freely floating down the surface. The tall trees' dead leaves have gotten mixed in with the thick grass that was recently trimmed and styled from the front yard, making it appear less tidy.

Brielle's ideas were carried away by the strong wind. When her eyes went to the massive doors of the palace from the pavilion where she was standing, she momentarily lost awareness of her position right in front of the gate. She repeatedly blinked while focusing on making her eyesight clear by squeezing her eyes together. Shaking her head, she then turned to face the closed gate in front of her. Her breathing became erratic and quick as her heart pounded and started palpitating violently.

What on earth is this? She feels completely different, as if agony, pain, and calamity are concealed beneath the menacingly gloomy atmosphere covered in calm wind. She doesn't want to gaze at the palace again since it terrifies her. She swears that she sensed something within the pavilions' tall, substantial walls.

Is that an indication of her bad luck in the palace? She sensed a profound, ominous feeling. And... It is focusing on her. What on earth is that? Has the Emperor already arrived? Wow, that feeling was really unsettling. She senses getting sucked in, so what the heck. She moved her belongings inside after learning that the Emperor had left the empire. She will push through as long as the emperor is not in.

She has already been given many responsibilities on her first day in the palace's main hall, where the Emperor resides. It's thought to be typical for beginners. They frequently assign newcomers a lot of work to see how far they can get. And as long as there is no emperor present, Brielle can keep going all day.

“Clean up the yards, then go get some water to water the plants.”

Despite her ignorance, she took action, cleaned the front, and followed her new Matron's instructions. She initially nearly circled the garden in search of a broom, but when she didn't find one, she simply collected the leaves. She was furious to turn around when she was done since the broom she was looking had just materialized next to her standing post.

Isn't it typical for the first day?

She dabbed the drop of perspiration that trickled down her forehead. She then gave a vigorous blow to the air because the sun was already beaming. She was debating whether she should enter the hallways since she figured she might just get a sermon there, so she chose to stay outside and water the plants.

That is how her entire day unfolded. Also, it's not that simple. Considering the size of the main palace, she needed a whole day to clean all the yards. What an ordeal!

Now it's getting dark.

She spoke the word "Hays" with a big sigh and then resumed sweeping the walkway. When three carriages in a row came up outside, she was in the middle of her most recent cleaning. The gates suddenly opening themselves frightened her. She suddenly sprinted into the garden and hid behind a tall shrub. She observed the arriving vehicles. They immediately went to the garage, where they found three additional extremely fine carriages of different types. The entire scene appears to be fresh.

Thus, the main hall is this busy. She scowled as she wondered why there were so many automobiles at the palace when previously there were carriages outside. Or has the Emperor just arrived, perhaps?
