Midoriya woke up to the rumble of footsteps, storming through the halls. He groggily sat up in his bed, wondering why there was so much noise. What on earth were his classmates doing? Don't they know people sleep? Midoriya looked over at his bedside table All Might themed alarm clock.
7:18 am.
It's a weekend, normally he'd expect them to be sleeping in. So why were they up now? He was about to ignore them, and curl back up in his blankets to sleep again when someone started pounding their fists against the door. Nonstop.
"Deku!" a feminine voice that undoubtedly belonged to Uraraka shrilled from the other side of the ebony door. She rapped her knuckles against the hard surface even more as if growing impatient. She wasn't even giving him a chance to respond!
"I'm coming!" Midoriya called, falling out of the bed. He hastily crawled to the door and opened it slightly, "what is it? Is something wrong?"
"Nope!" she smiled, "Last night we figured it would be fun to have a day at the pool, and the pool place opens in 20 minutes. Will you come?"
"I..." Midoriya rubbed his hands through his hair, "I guess?"
"Aw thanks, Deku!" Uraraka pushed the door open a little more so that she could hug him. She hugged him a lot. Uraraka was just a very loving character in that way, "Hurry up and grab your trunks! We leave in 15!"
"S-sure," Midoriya replied, slowly shutting the dark wooden door. He backed away, feeling exhausted. He shouldn't have agreed to go swimming. But he just told Uraraka he'd come, so he now felt this sudden pull to go, simply to make her happy. He grabbed his swim trunks and got into some normal clothes. When he left his room he was pulled by a swarm of students, rushing to the elevator at speeds against his will.
When they arrived at the UA pool, got in their swimwear, and set out their towels and belongings, Midoriya already was too tired to even swim. He got an hour of sleep last night. His thoughts kept him up all night long. He was sure everyone could see the visible bags under his groggy eyes, and just how sluggish he seemed.
But he was proved wrong. No one even really gave him a second glance. All too busy playing with their friends, but that didn't bother Midoriya. So long they were having fun, nothing usually bothered him for the most part. Midoriya set his stuff down and approached the water. All the girls in their class were already splashing around in the pool, with some of the boys. They all had the common sense not to tell Mineta they were going to the pool, so thankfully he wasn't there.
Midoriya sat on the pool ledge, dipping his feet in the water calmly. Everyone was at the opposite end of the pool, where the deeper end was so they could do tricks and dives. Midoriya was by himself, enjoying watching them.
Someone sat next to him.
Midoriya looked up in slight surprise, to see who the figure was. It was Todoroki, sitting next to Midoriya on the pool ledge, also putting his feet in the water. Midoriya was a bit startled, he didn't recall seeing Todoroki on the way over, but then again he'd been with Uraraka and Tsuyu that entire time. He smiled up at the taller boy.
"H-hey Todoroki," he said with his usually bubbly friendly self.
"Hey," Todoroki said in a much more gruff or moody tone. Then they sat in awkward silence, only broken by the screams of their friends messing with each other in the water. Midoriya felt a bit nervous, oddly enough. He and Todoroki had become friends, closer friends after the sports festival. Something about that event must have sparked a friendship with the two boys, where before they hardly spoke a single word to each other.
