Why Would You Do That?!

Three things ran through Midoriya's head within seconds.  It was a sense of awakening, then terror.  The dots had finally been connected and just as they had, everything fell back apart to his utter horror.  And he felt the same way he used to.  Before he went to UA, before he met All Might, and before he'd inherited One for All. The feeling of not being able to do anything, the crushing thought that he couldn't do anything, and that he was a useless being, just another figure in the crowd.

1. He found it anonymous.  After all that searching he found anonymous.  And it was the boy he'd managed to fall in love with.  Shoto.

2. He realized just how much he needed Todoroki.  He couldn't live without seeing that smile in his life, by his side, warming up the very room with its brightness.

3. He was about to lose the love of his life for good.

Midoriya screamed when Todoroki stepped off the railing that mounted the upper line of a building.  That building was none other than the Endeavor Hero Agency. Or at least, one of its many branches across Japan and the city of Musutafu.  Midoriya couldn't help but cry out in shock and perturbation.  Todoroki, the boy who'd stolen his heart, the first person and only person he'd caught feelings for, had just jumped.

But he wasn't the helpless, quirkless boy in the crowd anymore.  He wouldn't just stand by and watch Shoto commit suicide.  He just couldn't let himself do that.  Because the thing is, even as long as it took for him to realize it, Midoriya couldn't quite live without Todoroki.

Next thing he knew, his legs and pushed him within seconds of Todoroki's fall, up into the air.  He felt the exhilarating feeling of flight, not even dread could pull him down.  Like a poetic dance in the air, power circulating through his veins and around his body with nothing but pure energy as he took off.  Not even a second had past and he had already met Todoroki midway.

It was as if time had slowed.  He could hear the faint noise of the crowd and police below him, the low hum of the helicopter filming from above, and the clicking of the eyes of cameras.  He saw Todoroki's paled face, stained with tears and eyes bloodshot.  And his miscolored eyes were locked on Midoriya's in shock.  His arms were gently moved outward as if they were spread wings he refused to use.  And the bristling of his hair was enough to make Midoriya nearly falter.

Midoriya swiftly wrapped his arms around Todoroki's waist, as he neared the wall of the building.  He tore his eyes away from Shoto, concentrating his power on the building.  He dug his heels into the agency's outer wall, momentarily stopping them a good hundred feet in the sky.

"Midoriya?"  Shoto's voice didn't sound remotely scared or shocked.  It was sad, broken, and heartbreaking like a long-lost song of sorrow Midoriya had never yet heard.  Midoriya didn't look at Shoto, he didn't have time to until they both fell to the cement together.  He pushed off the edge of the wall, springing them up higher into the sky onto another building's rooftop.

From there, Midoriya jumped again, never loosening his ever so tight grip on Todoroki.  It was like his life depended on holding the boy, and he couldn't let himself let go.  He bound from rooftop to rooftop, putting as much space between him as the crowd gathered to witness the suicide.

"Midoriya what are you doing here?"  Shoto asked as they landed on another rooftop.  Again, Midoriya didn't answer as he concentrated on moving forward,  "What are you doing?"

Midoriya landed on a taller building roof.  And continued his pattern of running away.  As far away as he could get.

"Midoriya!"  this time his voice sounded more urgent.

"I'm saving you," was all Midoriya said, with the few seconds of touchdown he had between landings.  Shoto didn't respond.  He just did Midoriya a favor, by wrapping his arms around his neck as to not fall.  Midoriya felt Shoto rest his forehead on Midoriya's shoulder in defeat, his tears now dampening Midoriya's nightshirt.
