“Mother! Stop it! She thinks you hate her!”
“Matthew! I do not hate her! I think she would be a very nice girl, for a farmer in Indiana. But not for a prince of Manson who is going to be a king! Can’t you do better?”
“Mother, I don’t want to do better. I want her! She is amazing, and loving, she’s beautiful and caring, and she is so smart. I cant believe you would say something like that about her! She’s not some backwoods girl who likes to hunt!”
“Well, do her parents know?”
“Her parents are dead. They died when she was a child.”
“Well, what are your intensions with her? Are you going to marry her?”
“Yes. I, I want to marry her. I...I’m just waiting for the perfect time to ask her. We haven’t been together long enough yet.”
“Then, the best time to ask her is the present. Do it. Or, I will find someone for you and you will have to marry whoever I pick for you.”
“Okay...but, you, have to get to know her better, and if you end up liking her, then, then, I can wait till the time is right to marry her and I don’t have to marry any of your snobby friends’ daughters.”
“Fine. Starting today.”So, later that afternoon, I was walking with Xander’s mother.
“So, Audrey, was it? What are some things about yourself that I may not know?”
“Um, well, I was raised by my aunt and uncle in Indiana, I like music, and books, My favorite color is yellow, I love photography, I like vintage clothes, I’m not really that girly, I like sports more than I like sparkles, and uh... I have always wanted to go on a cruise, I got on my first air plane was to come here to visit Xander, I mean Alexander, and he is the only guy I have dated since I was 16.” I told her a lot more. Hoping it would help in her liking me. Turns out it did. She liked me so much she thought I was perfect for Xander and that we were perfect together.
That evening after dinner, I was sitting on the balcony watching the ocean and the tide come in. I looked down and saw a girl with a tall guy, who seemed to look like Xander. The more I looked at them, I noticed it was Xander. I was so upset, I thought that the only reason his mother spent the whole day with me and that he wasn’t at dinner was because he was seeing a nother girl and that he was doing it so I wouldn’t know.
The next morning, I was walking down the hall and ran into Xander in the hall.
“Good morning my angel,” Xander said as he tried to hug me.
“Good morning Matthew.” I said still mad at him.
“Audrey, what is it?”
“Did you kiss her?”
“What? What are you talking about? Kiss who?”
“Really? How could you lie to me! I saw you with her! I cant believe you! And you told me you loved me! I can’t!”
“You...you saw me? But Aud, I do love you! I love you more than anything! You, You can’t? Can’t what?”
“I...I can’t do this...i cant do this anymore. If...If you really love me, then, tell me the truth.”
“I can’t. I’m sorry...”
“Me too...” I said with tears in my eyes. I ran back to room and packed my bags. I left as soon as I could.
Xander and his mother had a huge argument, with him basically telling her that he wasn’t going to do her stupid bet anymore, and that because of her I left. He told her that he was going to go get me and he didn’t know if he would ever come back.
