As the weeks went by I decided I needed to actually start planning the wedding. It had gotten to the point where I was trying to plan anytime I could. At work, at home, any free time I had, I was starting to go nuts.
It was mid September and it was my favorite time of year. The leaves were changing, it was at the time of year when it was cold enough for a sweater, but not cold enough for a big coat.
Xander had decided to come visit me for a few days. He was bringing his mother with him, so she could see where I lived and my home town. I met them at the airport the day they got there.
I was standing at the gate waiting for them, when I saw them, I ran straight to Xander and hugged him. “I missed you!”
“I missed you too sweetie. How’s everything here been?”
“Good. Busy, but good.” I laughed.
“Good. Well, I’m here to help on anyway I can.”
“Me too.” His mother chimmed in.
I smiled and hugged her too. “Thank you.”
Xander had a few things to do that afternoon so I showed his mother around. I took her to the diner I worked at, I showed her my school, and the park, and I showed her where I lived. \
That evening when Xander came back, he told me I needed to get dressed up and that he had a surprise for me. He made me wear a blind fold and me, him and his mother walked to wherever he was taking us.
I couldn’t hear anything. “Xander, where are we goin?” I giggled.
“You’ll see. It’s a surprise.”
I held his hand and smiled.
“Okay, here we are!” He pulled my blind fold off. “Happy Birthday!”
“OH MY GOSH! Xander, did, did you do all this?”
“Maybe.”
“I love it!” I kissed his cheek. “I didn’t expect anything!” I walked around, he had candles everywhere, there was slow music playing, and my favorite flowers, white daisies.
“Thank you Xander. This has been the best birthday I have ever had.” By this point his mother had gone back to my apartment, and all my friends had left.
“Good. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Now, come with me.” He held out his hand to me. “Can I have this dance?” he smiled.
“Yes.” I took his hand and we literally slow danced for almost two hours. “Xander?”
“Yes darling?”
“Are you nervous?”
“About what?”
“Our wedding. I...I’m kind of scared.”
“About what?”
“What if it doesn’t work out, or, or I’m not a good wife, or a good daughter in law.”
“Audrey Marie,” we had stopped dancing, “You listen to me, you will be a great wife, daughter in law, and mother. There is nothing to be scared or worried about. Okay?”
“Did you say mother?”
“Well, uh...yeah. Is, is that okay? You do want kids don’t you?”
“Well, yeah.” I smiled. “Of course that’s okay. That’s more than okay, that’s great!” I hugged him.
The weeks went by and it was almost thanksgiving and I had been invited to go to Paris and enjoy thanksgiving day with Xander and his whole family.
