A/N: Hi! This is Golden Quill, an amazingly evil author. ;) The song has nothing to do with the plot, just a good message. And also the song does not belong to me. I haven't really finished many books so be warned, this is incredibly ameteur work. Feel free to give tips but make sure they stay clean like my work for the other readers. I will edit and try to update weekly, (please don't hold me to this). Other than that, I hope you enjoy my ideas (which belong to me.) :)
The first time I saw her eyes was during our free period. I had noticed her before but I had never really seen her eyes. She had always been a quiet girl. Not speaking to anyone. Just quietly watching and listening. She was smart. I could tell by the way she acted. Someone that good at listening had to be smart.
She didn't have any friends. She wasn't particularly weird and no one talked about her much like they usually did with the other introverted kids. She never did strange stuff unless you count reading and lugging around a huge stack of books everywhere she went. Her copper colored hair fell down to her waist and always seemed to cover her face, even when it was tied back.
I had noticed her because some of the other kids mingling in a crowd. None of my friends. These were all loud. Popular boys. I had come closer to see what it was about.
The girl (I couldn't seem to remember her name) was sprawled out on the floor of the hallway. She was looking up at the other kids in panic and her books were splayed out around her. Her backpack had fallen behind her as well. Her eyes were widened and I was shocked to see that they were a vivid shade of purple. It was unnatural and surprisingly comforting at the same time.
" - the bookworm lost her books! What does that leave her as?" The tallest boy, Aric, was sneering down at her.
"A worm!" Another boy answered to the delight of his friends.
"When are your friends going to come help you. Oh wait! You don't have any!" Aric said again.
The girl's face flamed and she started to gather up her things and walk down the hall. The bullies were keeping pace with her and I turned to follow as well, I wanted to help but I was unsure of the best way to cut in.
"You think you're some kind of hero. You don't have magic powers to save you."
She froze and her face was pale. I decided it was time for me to step in.
"How low have you gotten that you feel the need to make fun of girls who haven't bothered anyone in their entire life?"
The girl froze for a moment with her face contorted in confusion as she realized that particular comment hadn't been aimed at her. Then she broke for a run down the hallway.
I ignored what was probably some snide comments from them aimed at the two of us and called out to her.
"Wait! Are you okay?"
She ran out the door but I caught it and came up behind her. She disappeared up a large oak tree and I went around to find her but she was gone. I saw a flicker in the tree above me and looked up to find her big purple eyes peeking down at me through the leaves. I glanced at the tree and then back up at her. There were no good footholds or low branches that I could see.
"You are a fast climber. I don't even think I could get up there if I had an hour! How did you do it?"
There was no answer from above. I felt as if I was trying to coax a terrified animal out into the open.
"Can you come down? I want to talk to you."
She slowly lowered herself down onto the lowest branch and dropped, landing in a crouch before standing up. She continued to stay silent.
"Are you okay? They were pretty mean back there."
"Ethen, I don't need you to help me, I've been fine before." She started to move past me but I stepped in her path. For some reason it had startled me that she knew my name, I guess it made sense though. Just because I hadn't noticed her doesn't mean she hadn't noticed me.
"What's your name? This probably sounds rude but I haven't ever noticed you before."
She acted nonchalant but I saw a little bit of hurt cross her face. "That's okay, I do my best not to be noticed."
"You still haven't answered my question."
"Amelia," she said so quietly it was almost a whisper. Then she turned and walked back into the school building.
