A/N: Yay!

Amelia grabbed Ethan's arm and dragged him into her house. It was 3 miles into the woods which was why she always so she could travel faster. That and the fact that she had to shift every once in a while so it didn't happen automatically during the day. Her house was a cabin surrounded by trees. They wanted to stay away from others to provide less risk to Amelia but she had been able to convince her mother to let her stay close to a school.

When Amelia dragged in Ethan her mother stared at her silently. Amelia stared back and her mother searched her face for a moment before nodding. Amelia relaxed a bit. It seemed like her mother understood a little bit of what was going on. Her voice was quiet but had a hidden worry when she asked questioningly "Did he see you?"

Amelia just nodded in response and went to sit at the table. Lemon blueberry muffins were waiting. Ethan sat next to her which almost made her laugh. A few days ago she would have never imagined having a friend in her house. Look how much trouble that wish had caused. Maybe people like her weren't meant to have wishes. They both took a muffin. Amelia's mother looked a lot like Amelia. She had the same face shape, the same ears, and the same eye shape although hers were brown. She had blond hair instead of brown but it was just as long and a little messy. She was good at baking and had helped Amelia start to work towards a culinary arts pathway which Amelia loved. Amelia turned to Ethan and tried to see if she could gauge how he was handling it. He just looked excited. He was practically bouncing in his seat. Amelia let out a sigh. "The reason I was hiding is the P.O.A.C.H.E.R.s."

Ethan stilled. "Poachers?"

"Yes. It stands for Police Over Abnormal Creatures Humans Extraterrestrials and Researchers. Let me give you some history. Magic is not generally accepted by the public. Think the Salem witch trials. It is thought of as dangerous and eliminated. When George Washington became the first president of the United States, he created the Department of Magical Containment. It was like a police force for dangerous magic of all kinds. If someone used magic for harm, they were sent and collected or killed the magical person. They wouldn't bother any other magical beings. The people didn't know about this of course. That would ruin the point. As the years went on we got different presidents and they forgot about this particular department. It broke off of the president and made it their own separate organization. They started out the same. Controlling bad magic and leaving the good but soon the power got into their heads. You've heard of Nessie? Some of the earlier photographs were real. She was a lovely creature, or so I've heard. Some of the first few pictures were real until our poachers went to 'take care of it'. We think they've taken her to their headquarters but we haven't heard news from them in years! Our spy was caught a while ago and killed. The brothers Grimm were sort of like the German department. Instead of killing or containing the magic they make it out to be just stories and they take care of any of the villains. When our Magic department broke off from the presidents they decided that they were the only ones allowed to own magic. If they hear of magic they either take it to control it themselves or kill it. Even if the magical person hasn't hurt anyone or shown their magic in public." Amelia's face was pale even just thinking about it.

"What did you mean when you said the researchers part of the acronym?" Ethan asked.

Amelia nodded. "What I meant was that those who research magic are dealt with. That includes people who just found out about magic on their own... like you."
