A/N: I think this chapter is a little longer. I hope you like it more now that stuff is happening.
Amelia was sitting at another cafeteria table. She felt a little better now that Ethan knew about the magic. As if the burden on her back had eased. She was still worried about him though. It was even worse for him because he didn't have any magic to hide or defend himself. She was reading again but she wasn't hiding anymore. She just loved the stories. Tales where the characters were powerful and brave, facing the dangers instead of running. Ethan sat down next to her and smiled. His grin was crooked and his black hair was a mess. Amelia turned a little pink at the way his bright blue eyes met hers. They seemed to freeze up for a moment before they could move again.
"So has my amazingly awesome friend drawn any new pictures today?" He asked.
"No, I was just reading." Amelia answered. "I couldn't think of anything to draw."
"You could draw me." Ethan replied, His grin became even wider and revealed a dimple in his right cheek.
Amelia's smile dropped. "No, no, no, no, no. I absolutely cannot draw real life people."
Ethan rolled his eyes. "You draw yourself all the time! It's not that different. Plus I've seen you draw. This is gonna be easy for you! Come on I'll even pay you!"
Amelia pressed her palm into her face. "I don't want your money!" She groaned out. "I'll draw the picture but it won't look good." She opened her sketchbook and scratched her pencil across the surface. Her tongue poked out a little bit and she kept glancing up at Ethan to check his face against her sketch. Soon she had a basic drawing that showed him smiling the same way he looked now. He immediately grabbed the sketchbook and scrutinized his image.
"I think it needs something." He looked back up at her. "Like a best friend or something." He handed back the drawing.
Amelia groaned but penciled herself into the background. Ethan grinned and tore out the page. He folded it carefully and tucked it into the front pocket of his backpack. The bell rang and they both swung their bags over their shoulders and waved goodbye to each other.

Fourth period history was always boring. Mrs. Moore's voice droned on and on. "December 20, 1812..." Amelia was doodling in her book as she listened. She knew most of the stuff already but she was still careful because Mrs. Moore seemed to have it out for her. "...the Brothers Grimm published their famous fairy tales. Many believe they were silly stories while others believe that they might be much more than that." Amelia started and looked at her teacher with sudden suspicion. Mrs. Moore was smiling back in a way that meant far. Amelia smiled nervously to hide her panic.
"Facts prove that magic is fake. It is impossible for anyone to have gifts that others do not. Such a power would be wrong for anyone to hide." Mrs. Moore knew. There was almost no doubt about it. Amelia hoped she didn't have enough evidence yet to send out the poachers but even if she didn't, it wouldn't be long. Amelia couldn't run yet or it would draw attention to herself. Maybe if she acted calm enough they wouldn't believe Mrs. Moore. Amelia forced herself to not fidget and tried to remember what normal was like. She was smiling far too much but she didn't know what else to do. Panic was consuming her. There was no escape. She wouldn't be able to run. She wouldn't be able to save herself and her mother. They would die just like her father and sister had. She noticed some of her classmates looking at her which only made things worse. As soon as the bell rang she left, hoping she didn't look too suspicious. She rushed to lunch and found Ethan.
He smiled as she sat down with him.
"Ethan I was caught!" Her voice was a harsh whisper. "Mrs. Moore is a poacher! She knows about magic and she knows about me!"
Ethan paled. "Are you sure?"
"She was talking about the Brothers Grimm and how there was no magic but if there was, it would be wrong to hide. The whole time, she was watching me.
"Are you going to be okay?" Ethan asked worriedly.
"I don't know if I can leave without drawing more suspicion! She will probably be bringing in a crew to corner me after school. That's not why I wanted to tell you though. I want to make sure you ignore me after this. We can pretend to have a fight! It will keep them from investigating you. I don't want to bring you into this. I already told you. I don't want them to find out what you know!"
"I'm not going to leave you to protect yourself!" He argued. "You can't make me!"
"Then I'll make myself!" Her eyes were tearfilled as she stood up and left once again to sit in the bathroom.
