Heyyy! uh... If anyone feels insulted by this - even slightly! - please tell me. I don't wanna offend any of you :) eNjoy!
Zach wasn't religious. He'd stopped believing at a young age, being the skeptic he was. It didn't help that people around him assumed he was something he wasn't just because he was Christian. Not just that, but the obnoxious religion bashing helped with creating a certain mindset for Zach. One that revolved around the lack of God. He, of course, didn't criticize any other religions -- that's a terrible thing to do.
To lots of people, religion was hope. The idea that there was something to live for is what gave people a will to live. Others had just grown up hearing things. Hope was something Zach hadn't felt in a while. That is, until Jack Avery entered his life. They'd met on Tinder. As a joke, Jack had super liked Zach. That led to the two of them bonding and unintentionally flirting. It wasn't until they'd been friends for an entire 2 years that they met in person.
That had been fun. Zach vividly remembered staring at Jack for majority of the time. Though he only knew Jack through texts, he'd managed to crush on Jack. After all, the curly head was sweet, funny and everything Zach wanted in a guy. Meeting him in person only made his feelings for the other worse!
At some point, he'd admitted to liking the older. He was pretty surprised when Jack requited his feelings.
And now here they were. After six years of dating, their relationship is ending.
"Jack..." Zach whispered, tightening his grip on the boys hand. Jack lay there, breathing heavily. His face was bloody and bruised. Scratched up. His leg was broken and propped up on a pillow. Jack winced.
"Hey Zach."
"Jack...how the fuck did this happen?"
"Car..ugh...car accident." Jack winced. "mmh. Hurts like a bitch."
Zach sighed and bowed his head. He cursed softly.
"hey, look at me. We've...we've been through w-worse." Jack comforted.
"No we haven't, Jack!" Zach sobbed. "The doctors....the doctors said there was a low chance you'd be able to get back on your feet."
"The doctors are d-dumb."
"They're professionals," Zach answered, staring directly into Jack's dark eyes. "they know what they're doing."
Jack scoffed. "I-I'll be fine. May...maybe."
"maybe? As if that's going to make me feel better!" Zach sighed. Jack shrugged, then winced. Zach pressed a kiss to Jack's forehead.
"Zach, I'm...I'm n-not letting you g-go anytime sooner. I love you, okay?" Jack murmured.
Zach nodded, kissing him again. "I know. I love you too."
At around three am, Zach had woken up to wheezing and the heart monitor beeping loudly. He gasped and ran out, shouting for a doctor. Seconds later, they'd filed in, shutting the door on Zach and telling him to leave.
Zach paced the hallway, arms folded, mind running. And for the first time since he was a child being forced to go to Church with his mom, he prayed. For Jack. And Zach knew right then that he'd do anything to have Jack alive. Anything for Jack. But only time would tell what would happen to him and Jack. Only time.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
