Freya woke up as light streamed into the den, she looked out of the entrance and up at the rainy sky. It was darker than usual, she thought, did that mean her father was in a bad mood? Was he sad? What was he upset about this time? she wondered.
Then the last few days events came rushing back to her. Her mother was dead.
Hot tears flooded Freya's eyes and she stifled a sob, but it bursted out of her, shaking her whole body. The tears streamed down her face.
The pup cried and cried as memories of her mother played in her mind, over and over and over again. The good times, the bad times and everything in between. She cried until she had no tears left in her eyes, but even after she stopped her body still kept shuddering.
After a while, Freya finally calmed down till the occasional sniffle was heard, then finally she stopped. An empty void settled in her heart and a sadness and emptiness she couldn't explain. She felt utterly alone.
Then she remembered she was in Wings' den and that she really was alone. Wings as wasn't in her moss bed- or in the den at all.
She then also remembered what her aunt. said the night before, that if she wasn't there in the den the next morning, she'd probably be in the Healer's Den. There seemed to be a high demand for medical attention lately, with the Sickness going on and everything, the Healer's just couldn't keep up with their normal shifts, so they made the Healer's work extra long hours..even though everyone knew that there was no cure- or that there was but no one seemed to know what it was. They just wanted to numb the pain a little..stay on the sleeping medicine until they don't wake up again.. It was sad really. They had no hope of survival..
Freya swallowed another lump of tears and stood up. She didn't want to be thinking of that sort of thing right now...
The purple eyed pup stepped outside, a cool gust of wind greeted her- and so did sheets of rain, Freya could hardly see a couple paw-steps in front of her. She bolted for the dryness of the Healer's Den.
Freya entered inside, now safe from the rain, but it was stifling hot in here, almost like a hot fire or a bolt of lightning entered through here, so unlike the coolness outside. Freya shook herself off and looked around, despite the heat, the Healer's were bustling around as quick as ever, grey and white blurs sped around everywhere, stopping every couple of seconds to check up on a patient or give them the right medicine they needed.
All of the mossy cot's to hold the sick wolves in were full- though it didn't come as a surprise anymore, with so many wolves catching this sickness and all.
Freya tried to pinpoint which one of the speeding blurs was her aunt.
Then she saw her, she stopped by the stone medicine shelves and reached up to get a couple of herbs which were on the top shelf.
Freya trotted over to her, "Wings!" she called.
At the sound of her name, Wings whipped her head around, and the object she was trying to get almost tipped over, but luckily she caught it just in time.
Wings took the medicine down from the shelf and placed it on the ground, "Freya! You really should be more careful, you startled me and you almost made this medicine drop! We are very low on it at the moment and it comes from the Earth Pack territory only! And i really don't think Alpha Storm and Kodiak are on good terms right now."
Freya ducked her head and looked at her paws, "s-sorry..." she apologized.
The healer's eyes softened and she stepped closer to the pup, "it's alright, you didn't mean to, it was an accident, i understand...sometimes with all of these extra shifts and lack of sleep i get a little bit cranky." she said, her pelt brushing hers.
