Once Zak got to the cafeteria and sat back down the girl proceeded to introduce herself. "So! My name is Riley! What's yours?" She asked, finally sitting down, on the other side of Darryl.

"....My name is Zak..." Zak replied reluctantly. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Zak! So, how long have you known Vinny for exactly?" She asked. Why does she keep calling him Vinny? That's such a weird nickname. "I've known him for 5 years myself, we met in the 5th grade, when he first moved here." She said with a smile. (If you didn't know they're in their sophomore year of high school, 10th grade).

"Oh, well I met him on discord, on some group thing for a YouTuber. We both joined Uhh, I don't remember how long ago it was... Ummmm.." Zak couldn't remember how long ago they first met.

"I remember, it was back when I still lived in France, a couple years before I moved here I think." Vincent said. "Ohh yeah! Because I remember asking you a bunch of questions about what it's like living there." Zak said in response.

Riley did not enjoy this. She tried to show Zak she had known Vincent for longer, but it turn out Zak was the one who knew him longest. Zak however, was glad he could say he'd known Vincent the longest.

(Dude I just realized my story is so much longer than most people's... why am I doing this? My next story is definitely not going to be this long- I always get worried about progressing a story too fast but this time around I think I progressed the story too slow ;-;)

It wasn't noticeable between anyone else, but both Zak and Riley knew, they were in a middle of a battle. A battle to see who was closer. Who was better. Who their friends liked the most. And that's what started the cycle of them both doing their best to make themselves seem better than the other.

Wilbur noticed this, but he didn't want to stop them because he thought it was funny. I would too. Now, this may seem all fun for you guys, but Riley and Zak were not only competing but thinking of ways to get the other out of their way.

Riley started forming plans on sabotage. She stared thinking about how big and how small the chances were that she could trick her friends into disliking, or even hating Zak. One other thing she considered...

Was bulling him until he died.

She wanted to find some way to indirectly bully Zak. To bully him without anyone realizing it was her. What better way to get him out of the picture? If she blackmailed him or tried to trick her friends there would always be a way he could come back and turn them against her. The only way for her to properly get rid of him, was to indirectly kill him.

She knew bullying was bad, but if he killed himself because of it, that would be his own fault. And their friends wouldn't suspect her, they wouldn't blame her. They would blame themselves, for not helping Zak. She knew that if he took his own life, he'd be gone for good.

Now, she wasn't bad enough of a person to hire someone to kill Zak, let alone do it herself. She could never think of doing such a thing. She has more morals than Wilbur. Wilbur would help with hiding evidence of a murder, but she would never think of committing or helping with one.

She simply wanted to bully Zak. In the back of her mind, she was come across the thought of "If I bully him enough he might kill himself", but she would never purposefully cause him to kill himself.

She would simply bully him. If he killed him self, she would probably feel remorse. Regret. Guilt. She didn't truly want him to die. Which is why bullying was an option she would only look to if nothing else worked.

She didn't want to kill Zak. But she wouldn't be opposed to him dying. To him never being in the picture again. Only a small percentage of her brain thought it would be best to bully him until he breaks. For she wasn't as far gone as Zak.

She wasn't as mental. She wasn't as crazy. As insane. She still had a heart. She still had a soul. She could be redeemed. If someone just tried hard enough, she could be good. But no one. And I mean no one... could redeem Zak. Not even Darryl.

Zak was too lost in insanity to be redeemed as a person. He was too deep into insanity to even be thought of as a good person after being redeemed. While Riley only had 0.01% of her mind going to indirectly killing Zak... Zak had about.. 95% of his mind going to purposefully... killing her... himself.

Yet there was something... something inside... something small.. that told Zak no. That knew he was insane. That knew something had happened to him to make him lose his sanity. This small part of him that knew he was lost, and that he must've gone through something.. was his heart.

In his heart he knew... how could he kill her? How could he hurt her? Why was he acting this way? Why did he lose his sanity? His heart.. it belonged to Darryl. This is why. He couldn't hurt someone Darryl cared so deeply for. Yet... he already did. He already harmed Nick in the worst way possible. He saw how pained and sad Darryl was. He didn't want Darryl to be sad.

But of course, this wasn't enough. This wasn't enough to stop him. The thought of sparing this girl.. crossed his mind only once. And it never crossed his mind again. His heart. It knew. It knew that the only way to win Darryl over.. it to make sure no one else can.

It was known information to his heart, to his mind. He had to get rid of the obstacles. How else could he have Darryl? There's no way Darryl could love him if all of these people stood in the way. This is why he didn't feel that strongly towards mercy.

Zak wasn't always like this.. no. When Zak was younger he had a pure mind. Not like most psychopaths, he never harmed small animals. He never harmed any animals really. He was kind, of course, he was still Zak, so he was good at making sarcastic jokes, and being mean, but in the funny way. But he wasn't interested in murder, or harming others at all.

A sweet, kind, funny, and wonderful soul he had. But hey... when something bad happens... not everything can stay the same. That's something his parents noticed when he first came back. Once they saw him and he was pure, next they saw him and his eyes were dull, his personality, still kind.. but more.. how do I put it...cruel? He was no longer the innocent child they knew.

He would freak out whenever they touched him. They took him to a doctor, not one of medicine, one of psychological. He was taken to a psychiatric doctor. That was when his fear was confirmed. His fear of being touched. That's when it was first considered a serious phobia. And his parents didn't know why. Not long after Zak returned his father grew sick. The same sickness that caused his death. And then, a couple years later, they moved into the town they live in now.

The town where Zak met Darryl.

Ahh, yet another chapter released. Just a little bit about the past. Through the information in this chapter you can only make educated theories on Zak's past. None of this is enough to pin point exactly what has happened in the past, and figure out his backstory.
