NATHAN POV

I had a pretty good idea how Sam got those bruises. The only problem was that I had no clue how to approach the topic with her. I was almost one hundred percent certain that it was that boyfriend of hers yet I was clueless about how I could prove it. It was no secret that he was obviously a very dodgy guy. That was clear from both his mannerisms and how Sam always acted around him. She was always so anxious when he was in sight. I saw it the moment she left my place and got into his car.

The bruises were all over her but the ribs were horrific. I couldn't comprehend how anyone could stay with the person who did that to them but I knew it was probably a lot more complicated than I thought.

But if I knew one thing it was that she needed my help, even if she didn't know it. I would get Sam out of this.

"Where did your friend go?"

I turned away from the window and smiled at my mom who had just appeared from the kitchen.

"She had to go, something came up."

My mum frowned and shuffled around in her purse before pulling out some money and placing it in my hands.

"Well your father just called and something came up at work so I need to meet your sister at the school instead."

I knew it seemed to a lot of people that  my sister was the centre of my family and we all revolved around her but I honestly didn't care. I knew they loved us both equally and it gave me more time to do my own things, plus it meant I got more opportunities to do fun stuff.

"Order yourself some pizza or something and I'll be back later."

She leant in to kiss my cheek before leaving out of the front door.

It was pretty late now and my parents still weren't back. My mom and sister ended up going back to her friend's house for dinner. That led to Julia sleeping over and my mom staying for drinks, apparently my dad turned up too and one drink led to a few more and soon enough both of my parents ended up over the limit. Since neither of them could drive back because they were over the limit they got an uber to a local hotel and were staying the night. Like I said, I was fine with this. It just meant that I could have some free time to myself.

I headed up to my bedroom with a beer and the rest of the pizza and fell onto my bed, turning on the TV. I flicked through the channels, everything irrelevant until I heard some blaring music coming from outside.

"Jesus..."

I muttered while climbing out of bed and over to the window. I shifted my blinds and stared out to see a car. The boyfriend's car.

Sam's boyfriend's car

I watched from a distance, the blinds acting as a shield that hid my face from whoever was outside.

My heart dropped to my stomach when I saw someone push Sam's tiny body out of the car and onto the lawn in front of her house.

"Fuck!"

I instantly started running out of the house and over to Sam's unconscious body.

"Sam!?"

I shouted, tapping her face lightly. Her eyes were open but extremely vacant. She was unresponsive. I gazed over the rest of her body, seeing her in a short dress that looked as though someone had quickly tossed it onto her. I didn't even want to think about what they'd done to her, getting her to safety was more important right now. I glanced down to her arm, about to take a pulse when I noticed several needle marks on her arm.
