awsten flopped on his couch after a long day at meetings with 300 records and hopeless records. geoff and otto couldn't fly in, and awsten was exausted being the only one physically there. of course, otto and geoff were there over zoom, some video conference app awsten had never heard of before.

turning on the television, cnn was on. the caption read "the president will enforce coutnry lockdown starting this sunday." it was friday. listening to the news, there was a virus awsten heard bits and pieces about, but never straight on, and it was infecting america quickly. all transport, schools, and businesses would be shut down, meaning there was not a time in the near future awsten could see his family.

as if on cue, taylor called awsten.

"awsten?" her voice was shaky. "are you watching the news?" she was hyperventilating.

"yeah. holy shit."

"what are we going to do?" she asked. awsten thought for a second.

"i don't know." he sighed. "aren't you on shift?" he asked her.

"yeah. i took a break to call you. i'm scared, aws. what's gonna happen." he could hear her crying, each quiet sob broke his heart more and more.

"hey, hey." he quietly said, "don't cry, i don't know what's gonna happen, but i know we'll get through this, okay?"

"okay."

"alright. call me when you get home. i love you, taylor." he didn't realize this was the first time he said this since they got back together two months prior.

"i love you too, awsten. bye." and with that, she hung up. awsten put his phone down and screamed out. he sat there, cnn playing faintly in the back until he grabbed his laptop and hurried to the airline site. he was going to be there with his family. he was going home.

the flight was for four hours from then, so awsten rushed through his apartment grabbing things he'd need. he through some tee shirts, some hoodies, jeans, underwear, an extra hoodie for taylor to steal from his room, grabbed his tooth brush, shampoo, and conditioner from his bathroom, his laptop from his living room and thinking if he forgot anything, he ran back to his room grabbing something he forgot.

awsten practically sped to the airport. he wanted to get home to houston as soon as possible. the airport was packed with people doing the same thing he was, making it slightly infuriating for him.

awsten eventually landed in houston, and practically ran to grab his suitcases. after leaving, he called an uber and went straight home. awsten realized he hadn't told taylor he was coming home, and it was 11 at night.

he arrived at the house, sighing to himself. he thanked the driver, got out of the car, and walked to the front door. he knocked on it a few times waiting for taylor to open the door.

taylor was inside, watching the news, silently panicking when she heard a knock on the door. she expected it to be jaclyn or max, so she calmly walked to the door, unlocked it and opened it.

to her surprise, awsten stood in front of her, two suitcases and a guitar case standing next to him. before she got a chance to process anything, awsten embraced her. she wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him close.

"i'm home." he mumbled into her neck. she let out a cry of relief.

"how are you here?" she asked, confused.

"i hopped on the earliest flight. i couldn't just stay there when i didn't know if i'd see you anytime soon."

"come inside, here, let me help you." taylor took the guitar and a suitcase from him. her house was mainly unpacked, two couches and a chair in the living room with a smart tv, the kitchen mainly unpacked, and her bed finally had a frame and she had a tv in there aswell, but boxes still lay around the room.

awsten placed some clothes in the closet, keeping some others in his suitcase. he quickly went to the bathroom and took a quick shower. returning, he smiled at his girlfriend.

he was home, and they were going to figure this out together.
