if awsten said that this entire covid thing wasn't making him fucking depressed, he'd be lying. while, of course, he had his family, it wasn't the same when it feels like you're on house arrest.
twitter made him feel worse. everyone always insulting him, the way elijah or max do, but they don't know him. of course awsten knows most of them are joking, but sometimes it still hurts. at least max is nice to awsten and reminds him she's joking quite frequently, these people don't.
"babe, just delete the app. go on a break." taylor whispered, half asleep while awsten was still scrolling and replying to assholes.
awsten didn't tell her about how a lot of people are speculating about her. someone saw them together a while ago, and with awsten, gracie, chloe and elijah following her, people got antsy. they demanded to know if awsten got back together with her.
max had a public instagram account, which taylor, awsten and elijah being active on it, people stalked it. one of her posts were from the welcome home party they through for taylor, and in the group photo, awsten was holding elle on his hip.
most fans were respectful and came to the conclusion they were just friends, but others went way too far.
awsten sighed before deleting the social media off his phone and going to sleep, holding taylor extra close that night.
a few weeks later, it was taylor's birthday. awsten was grateful he deleted social media so he could focus on her and only her.
taylor didn't want to do anything special, not that she could, but taylor was never a big birthday bash person, per say. she enjoyed having a few friends over and eating cake. throughout the day, friends came and went.
kyle and max came by first, dropping off some food and a cake that max made, it was chocolate with vanilla frosting with the words "happy birthday gremlin #2", which made taylor laugh.
next came gracie, who left a present at the door and said happy birthday from the front lawn. the present was a homemade phone case and her famous custom ashtrays, this one with cute star stickers and flowers and in the center, a photo of elle, taylor and awsten.
jaclyn stopped by to give taylor her famous cookies and a giftcard to ulta beauty.
the final duo was her father and emma. don wished taylor a happy birthday and gave her 100 dollars, however emma gave her something more personal. she gave taylor a locket she found in the attic of her and don's house. inside lay a photo of taylor's mom and her mom holding taylor as a baby.
"i was looking around and i found this. i couldn't believe it, and you deserve to have it."
taylor felt like crying. her mother passed on when taylor was thirteen. it was of breast cancer, and she was suffering for years, but didn't tell taylor or nick. her death heavily impacted taylor and it wasn't until taylor's sophomore year of high school that she started feeling better.
that was the year she met awsten.
speaking of awsten, his present to taylor wasn't as personal and tear jerking as emma'a, but it still meant a lot. awsten got her a bracelet with her birthstone, his, and elle's. it was a symbol of their unity.
taylor went to bed thinking about how this mightve been the best birthday she had ever had.
