It took a few seconds for me to put together the fact the the mosaic of different pieces of wood, all at various stages of decay, was actually a wall. Light spilled into the hall, from another room, and little slivers of moonlight from holes in the ceiling. Jerra brought his fingers around me, enclosing, and conceling me from the outside world.
"Whatya doing up so early Jerra?"
"Could ask ya the same Ross."
I was deposited in a warm pocket.
"Couldn't sleep."
There's another?
His brother maybe?
They aren't acting like brothers though.
More like friends."You got school tamarrow?"
"No, whatcha got planned?"
"We're planning on huntin, Trace is gonna go out to town and get some more stuff though, ya need anythin?"
Hunting?
Trace?"Na, don't think so."
"Ya wanna come then?"
"You know I'm not good with a gun."
"We'll teach ya."
"I'd probably shoot one of ya."
"Aw, come on man, quit being so down on yaself, worst ya can do is get Dean in the head, and that won't be too much a loss."
"Nah I'm gonna have to turn your offer down, got stuff to do, more roof repairs ya know?"
Holy fudge, what?
Something about hunting, and repairing the roof.
And two other guys.
What about their parents?
Trace, maybe?
I don't know...
Same. The conversation ended, silence punctuated by the soft click of a closed door. My stay in the warm pocket was ended by the long fingers that gently pinched my waist and slowly lifted me onto a palm.
I raise my eyebrows at him
"Who was that?"
"Ross."
"And..."
He tilted his head at me. Eyes examining, searching.
"I'll tell you later. Do you still want a bath?"
Defeated, I cross my arms and nod. He walked to a ramshackle room, with random assorted stuff, that I assume is the kitchen, though nothing in it gives any clue as to what the function should be. Stepping around a three legged table, he opens a cupboard, revealing several mismatched cups and bowls, several chipped porcelain, others faded plastic.
I OK a small teacup that's handle is broken mostly off. He dips it into a bucket and slowly walks back to his room.
Once the door is closed he sets the cup on the dresser, next to the empty plate.
Where'd the sandwich go?
I...don't...know.I look at him, his eyes were unfocused, aimed at the wall. I shrug, and pull my shirt off, then my shorts and underwear. After tossing my socks onto my small pile of clothes I pull myself over the smooth edge, and into the freezing cold water.
I instantly begin to shake, my lungs constricted with initial shock of frigid liquid.
As I adjust to the temperature, I relax, watching the dirt and dust lift off of my skin. My scalp itches, and I duck forward to scrub at my ratted hair. After sorting my hair out to the best of my ability I run my hands along my legs, feeling every growing hair. I feel uncomfortable, even though it was probably too small of a detail to be seen.
I look up, expecting to see the underside of his chin, or maybe his golden eyes, and reddening ears.
Instead though, I see brown eyes flickering over my every detail, widened in shock and unexpected surprise. Frantically I look around for Jerra, or something to hide behind. But Jerra isn't anywhere to be seen, and my only hiding spot is where I currently am.
My heart gets out the sledgehammer again.
His mouth opened, and a small sound came out.
"What?how? Ar-are you real?"
I recognized the voice as Ross'. The hesitant, stammer that I heard now contrasted greatly with the confident and joking words I'd heard earlier.
As my heart beat desperately at my ribcage I nodded.
He swallowed, blinked, ran his hand down his face, and then nodded back. He pushed his hands against the table to launch himself away.
"I'm not crazy then...OK. Why are you in Jerra's room? How-why are you so small? And-"
He was cut off by the door creaking open, and Jerra walking in.
"Alli- Ross..." He looked at me, still naked in the teacup. His shoulders dropped. "Well, this is unexpected. Ross, I guess you could at least let her get dressed before we get into this."
Ross reddened slightly. "Sh*t, sorry...Allie?" He turned away from me.
I silently told my heart to stop with the sledgehammer, and asked my arms to stop being jelly.
I pulled myself out of my bath, slipped my clothes over my still wet body, and stepped closer to the two guys.
"I'm Allie, and I have no idea how I got here."
Ross jumped around to meet my eyes, his gaze flickered over my tiny form once again.
"I'm Ross, and I guess you could call me the leader of our group of runaways here."
Runaways?I was about to ask when another figure stepped into the room.
"Hey guys, you might want to see this."
Haha! Another cliffhanger >:D this time intentional! Hope you enjoy the update (it took me forever to write it because I had no idea what to have behind the door, so I hope its good.) Vote if you did and I love yous :)
