Keith looked at his watch, and Brooke spoke up, "I'm going to stay here a few minutes and talk with Elise, so you can relax for a bit if you want, since there's office security here close to the front desk."
"I'll just catch up on my emails." Keith nodded and walked over to one of the waiting room sofas.
Brooke turned towards Elise and scrunched her nose. She didn't want to admit to Keith that she was hanging out to meet a boy band, and had only told him she was meeting Elise for lunch on her day off. How immature would that sound, especially with all she was dealing with because of Matt, and she certainly didn't want it getting back to Jacob that she was interested in other guys. Things might never progress between them if he thought that.
Luis, a top lawyer in the firm, stepped out of the in-office elevator looking intense and serious as he spoke with one of the office security guards before entering the elevator leading to the parking garage.
"He's the lawyer for Nine Days In," Elise whispered as soon as he was gone. "He must be headed down to escort the band up." She grinned like a school girl, then got serious. "Remember Luis's assistant has your request for autographs, so don't ask for one when you speak to them. They don't like to be bothered with that. When they get here they have to sign in, so they'll come up to the desk. I'll let you hand them the iPad so you'll have a chance to meet them." She practically bounced in her seat.
Brooke chuckled, finding it amusing that Elise was so excited. She wasn't quite sure about her own feelings; they were something more along the lines of curiosity.
"Don't make fun Brooke, I know you have Jacob, who is supposedly super hot, but you'll see why I'm fangirling soon enough." Elise shrugged and winked, "Who knows, you've got Jacob, and I might end up with a Jake."
"I wish, but you know as well as I do that I don't have Jacob. And who is Jake?"
"Only the hottest guy in the band and their lead singer. Get with it!" Elise smirked. "You really should-" The ding of the elevator drew their eyes up, and Elise squeezed Brooke's shoulder as her breath caught.
Brooke pasted on a smile. She'd seen how much of a headache fangirls were for her friends in Madness to know these guys didn't need another girl drooling over them. She tried to appear nonchalant and focus on the task at hand as she turned the iPad to the check-in app. Standing up beside Elise, she grabbed the stylus and the iPad then glanced up to see the group approaching. In the midst of them she locked on two eyes she knew well.
"Jacob!" she squealed, dropping the iPad back down, before running around to the other side of the reception desk with her arms thrown out for a hug.
"Brooke?" Jacob's expression changed from surprise, to guilt, before he covered with a smile, causing Brooke's own smile to falter.
Before she reached Jacob, one of the men that had entered with the group held out his hand to block Brooke from getting closer, but Jacob pulled the man's hand down and shook his head. "She's fine." He reached forward and pulled a frozen, confused Brooke into a hug.
Seconds later Keith was beside them. "Ryder, she's with me. This is Brooke."
Brooke slowly reciprocated the hug, finding it difficult not to be pulled in by the man she had been missing for the past month, and yet the realization of what this meant began to sink in, causing her to tense more.
