Sipping ginger ale and leaning back into the leather seat on the plane, Brooke took a deep breath and closed her eyes. A week and a half ago there was no way she would be on this trip, but with much convincing from her grandmother and Elise, she agreed. Jacob's Nan promised to sleep at their apartment so Grams always had someone if there was a problem, and Sabrina's oldest daughter, Grace, would go by for several hours on Saturday and Sunday to give Nan a break. Sabrina even planned to send a meal for Saturday.
Then this morning Brooke was a nervous wreck with the reality of leaving Noah so long hitting full force, combined with the reality of seeing Jacob again. At least Matt had again confirmed that Mari was not supposed to be in New York. Part of her worried that Mari would unexpectedly show up.
Once arriving at the airport, she felt like God gave her a reminder that he's got this. While checking in, they were told that someone had upgraded them to first class. Pamela, the travel agent for the tour had all of their travel information, so she could have easily done it, and she and Elise guessed that maybe everyone in Madness had splurged to make it happen. It was a nice surprise, so here Brooke sat, relaxing as the other passengers began to board.
Sending up a prayer of thanks, Brooke then pulled out a note from Sabrina and reread the verses she had been quoting all morning. "Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
After they were seated, Brooke sighed and glanced out the window, watching the workers loading suitcases onto the plane. She was determined to enjoy this trip, and decided to focus on the positives. Here she was in first class with her best friend, about to go have a blast in New York. Yes, focus on that, she thought as the flight attendant did the final checks and the emergency procedures were explained.
"So, do you have your outfit planned for the concert tonight?" Elise asked while thumbing through the SkyMall catalog.
"Sort of. I-"
"Oh my gosh! Are you guys going to the Nine Days In concert?" A girl from across the aisle interrupted, and Elise slowly nodded. "Me too! And my friend here." She pointed beside her. "Our parents gave us this trip for our graduation!"
"From college?" Elise wondered out loud.
Nodding her head, the girl said, "Yep!" Still grinning, she added, "We are super excited! They bought us backstage passes too! We go to their concerts whenever they're in central Florida, and we've been to a few of their out of town ones too. We finally get to meet them in person!" She sighed and fluttered her eyes. They are all so hot, but I'm especially looking forward to meeting Jake. I don't care if he is dating Mari Stephens, it will be awesome to get the chance to talk him. Who knows, maybe it will be love at first sight," she giggled and nudged her friend.
Elise started to speak, but Keith was sitting in the row behind the girls and looked at her sternly while shaking his head. Brooke just knew she was ready to tell the girl all about how they were already friends, but Elise seemed to rethink it and instead said, "That's great. Maybe we'll see you there."
"We'll be in the front row, near the center. If you're anywhere near there, be sure and give us a shout out." She winked. "I'm Ally, by the way. And this is Laikyn."
"I'm Elise and this is Brooke. I hope your trip turns out great." Elise smiled and then turned towards Brooke and made a face, before whispering, "Hopefully she won't ask more questions."
