     "Brooke?"

"Yeah? Why are you calling, Tyler."

"I wanted to catch up, and was hoping to talk with Noah too."

"There's no need to confuse him."

"I won't, I promise. But I'd still like to be part of his life."

Brooke rolled her eyes. "Could have fooled me."

"Is that him chattering in the background? I can hear him. Please let me speak to him. You can put me on speakerphone."

Brooke looked at the boy happily playing next to her. She hated the thought of Noah having to deal with a father that wasn't consistently there, just like she did. But she also knew it wasn't right to keep him completely from his father. Sighing, pulled the phone back to her face. "Okay. I'll put it on speakerphone." Laying the phone down, she hit the speaker button. "Noah? Come talk on the phone."

Noah's eyes lit up. "Da? Da?" He crawled closer to the phone.

"Noah?" Tyler began chuckling. "He called me Dada! He called me Dada! Noah, it's Dada!"

Noah's eyebrows shot up and he looked at Brooke. "Da?" He crawled away from the phone and into Brooke's lap. "Dada?"

All this time he'd been calling Jacob "Da" because he couldn't say the 'j' sound. He had crawled away from the sound of Tyler's voice; it was clear he was looking for and calling Jacob "Dada." The irony was not lost on Brooke. "I think that was more of an accident, Tyler, you've not been around enough for him to call you that." She didn't want to tell him he thought it was Jacob on the phone, and end up arguing in front of Noah, so she bit her tongue.

"Well we can change that. I'll make more of an effort to be around. In fact, why don't I come down this weekend."

     "N-no, I don't think that's a good idea, Tyler."

"I think it's a great idea, you can't keep him from me. That's not your plan is it? Just because -"

Tyler continued to talk, but an incoming text from Laura distracted her.

Laura: Just wanted to let you know that I spoke to Tyler a few minutes ago. He didn't take it well, and tried to convince me he could come down and work out whatever the issues were. He insisted he's a great fit for the program. I told him that Dr. Gupta's decision is final, and he can expect a formal letter in a couple of days. Hope he doesn't give you a hard time. Nothing was said at all about you , Noah, or your relationship as the reason. Thanks again for the help with meeting Nine Days In! Jacob is so dreamy! Lucky girl. Keep in touch.

"Uh, Tyler, I've got to go. Thanks for calling. Bye." Brooke hung up the phone. She was shaking. He had almost convinced her he was really calling to keep in touch with his son.

Brooke: Thanks for the heads up. You just saved me. Tyler had called begging to speak to Noah, and I actually believed him until I saw your text. That was the first time he's tried to contact me, since after I saw him last and discovered him cheating on me a month and a half ago! Obviously I got off the phone quickly.

Laura: Better than me. I would have had some choice words first! So sorry he's such a jerk, but glad you're away from him.

Brooke: Absolutely! Thanks again.

"Hi." Jacob grinned at Brooke and Noah.

"Hi." Brooke blushed, wondering how she got so lucky to have this amazingly sweet and good looking guy in her life. The doubts still lingered, however, and she worried he was too good to be true.
