Loading up the last box into the U-Haul truck my heart was broken forever.I turn and see my mother talking,to the vet, talking about the horse that the doc was holding. She was a black mare in her mid 30s,she got chased by coyotes last night and the cuts on her Gaskin and her stifles were so badly infected that we had to put her down, although she was the fastest one she still couldn't make it away. The vet took shear scissors and cut a piece of her mane off and tied it so fancy that the hairs didn't undo them selves. He gave the lock of hair to me and I held it close to my heart.I knew this would be the last time that I would see her,I pet her face smoothly and she looks into my eyes and she knows this is her last time to see me.I normally don't cry but this is my one chance to say goodbye for good,we were leaving for New York in a matter of minutes, the vet took a needle and stuck it into her back, she slowly but surely lost balance and fell to the ground. Then he took another needle into her heart.I had to turn away I couldn't bear seeing her eyes close for the last time I knew she was old and I knew it was her time but I couldn't bear it,me and her were friends, closer than friends like sisters.I hop into the truck tears rolling down my face this is the last time I see Texas this is the last time I'd be a ranch girl.
