Chapter 5

"Ugh! I'm such an idiot!" Calvin shouted at himself.

"Calvin, why are you calling yourself an idiot?" said Charles Wallace.

"Well, I totally choked and said "thanks" when Jess told me she liked me" said Calvin.

"That's not your fault" said Meg.

"Yeah it is. I seriously hope that I can get through this canoeing trip without being too awkward" said Calvin.

"You'll be fine, Cal" Sam said.

Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, the Wiggles and Jess were already in their canoes.

When Jess saw Calvin's face, she just turned away.

"Awkward. I think Jess is mad at Calvin" said Brer Bear.

"She is. I witnessed what happened and... yeah it was kinda messed up" said Brer Rabbit.

"Now den, y'all. Before we go out into dat lake, we bettah set some rules" said Uncle Remus.

"Let's start with appreciating your partner. She's really putting herself out there and deserves to know how you feel" said Jess.

"But you also don't want a partner that puts a bunch of pressure on you when you just want a relaxing fall boat trip" said Calvin.

"Fall?! Just a fall boat trip?! Do you have a different canoeing partner for every season?!" Jess yelled.

"Look! Calvin's sweatin throo his life preserver" Brer Rabbit laughed.

"Hey, Jess, calm down" Sam said.

"Don't tell me to be calm given what I'm going through!" Jess shouted.

"Jessie, that is not how we want to act in company so let's calm down for a while" said Murray.

"Yes, Uncle Murray" Jess sighed.

"I agree with your uncle. Can we please not talk about this in mixed company?" said Calvin.

"Don't you worry, O'Keeffe. You and I won't be talking ever again" said Jess stomping away.

"Well, bless my soul. What's dis?" said Uncle Remus.

"Jess is mad at Calvin" said Meg.

"Because he didn't give her the response she wanted" added Charles Wallace.

"Is she gonna be okay, Murray?" Sam asked.

"I dunno, Sammy. I haven't seen her this worked up since she found Edward in her bed" said Murray.

"So does dis mean, Jess is available?" said Brer Bear.

"Keep dreamin', buddy bear" sassed Brer Rabbit.

Brer Fox was spying on Jess and he was keeping track on how sad and angry she was.

"We's almost dere" he whispered.

What is Brer Fox doing?

I seriously hope Jess will be okay.

And what about Calvin's music video? He's probably struggling with it by now.
