Chapter 7

Calvin then went inside a meat locker and Jess was there.

"Jess?" he said.

"Calvin? What are you doing here? Looking for a place colder than your heart?" sassed Jess.

"No. Brer Rabbit wanted me to get burgers for the cookout later" said Calvin.

"He wanted me to do the same thing. That's strange. But not as strange as this box labeled "Otter Nuggets"." said Jess.

Calvin grabbed a box of patties and tried to open the door. But it was locked.

"Hey! What's going on here?" said Calvin.

"Obviously, we're trapped. Just like your emotions" said Jess.

Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear were sitting on a crate in front of the door which they locked themselves.

"We ain't openin dis door until you two make up and I gets my song!" Brer Rabbit called from the other side.

"And I gets my fifty million dollars" said Brer Bear.

"What?" Brer Rabbit almost shouted.

"I ain't sittin on dis crate fo nothin" said Brer Bear.

"Oh boy..." Brer Rabbit sighed.

Outside...

"I wonder how things are going with Cal and Jess" Sam said.

"Sam. Have you seen Jess? I haven't seen her since Brer Rabbit told her to get burgers" said Murray.

"No, I haven't seen her, Murray" Sam said.

"And, come to think of it, I haven't seen Calvin since then either" said Meg.

"Go on and look for them in the meat locker" said Charles Wallace.

"I will, kids. Thanks" said Murray.

In the meat locker...

"Great job, Calvin. Since you're dead on the inside, we're both gonna be dead on the outside" said Jess.

"Don't think that, Jess. Brer Rabbit wouldn't do this to his friends" said Calvin.

"Yes I would! I wants dat video!" shouted Brer Rabbit.

"It's so cold! Good thing someone left some mittens in here" said Jess.

"Jess, those aren't mittens. They're dead rats" said Calvin.

"You may have a bad heart, but you have a good eye" said Jess.

"Please stop saying things like that" said Calvin.

"Admit it! You don't care about me!" said Jess.

"That isn't true! I swear!" Calvin bickered.

"Then say it!"

"Fine! I'm in love with you too! Happy now?"

"It worked, Brer Rabbit. I heard Calvin say "happy now"." said Brer Bear.

"Great!" Brer Rabbit squealed.

"Brer Rabbit?" said Murray as he approached him.

"Murray! How's it waggin'?" said Brer Rabbit.

"I'm looking for my niece. I thought perhaps maybe you have seen her" said Murray.

"I has, yeah. I put her in de meat locker wit' Calvin. I's tryin' to get em to make up" said Brer Rabbit.

"I know how much you want them to forgive each other, but this is not how you're gonna do it. Let them out" said Murray.

"Okay. De plan worked anyway" said Brer Rabbit.

Locking Jess and Calvin away was mean, wasn't it?

Let's see if Brer Rabbit learns anything in the next chapter, shall we?
