Chapter 1 (Part 9) - Lost In Thought (Class Trial - Part 1/2)

Well, this was it: the 'long-awaited' class trial.

Case 01 - Maigo Impeishin:

Chikyū Chōsa:
"Where do we even start?"

Wakusei Shisutemu:
"Yeah...does anyone have any ideas?"

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"Usually, we would start with the cause of death, but in this case, I don't think that it is that important."

Kōi Yorokobi:
"Seriously? Not that important..? Have you lost your mind, dimwit?"

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"What do you mean?"

Kōi Yorokobi:
"The cause of death is surely the most important part!"

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"Well, it's kinda obvious..."

Kōi Yorokobi (REBUTTAL):
"You've just gotta accept that you're wrong!

"Stabbing isn't the only way to kill someone, you know! It might not be obvious, but another method could have been hidden right under our noses!"

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"Like what..?"

Kōi Yorokobi:
"There's gotta be something! There's just gotta be!"

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"What kind of thing are you talking about?"

Wakusei Shisutemu:
"Maybe most of us haven't come across it yet..."

Saki Hana:
"Yeah, there's probably some hidden method!"

Kojin Kisuri (AFFIRM):
"I'll continue from here!"

Kojin Kisuri:
"A hidden method... Are you implying that Maigo was poisoned?"

Kōi Yorokobi:
"Yeah, I guess..."

Bukiyōya Hito:
"Well, let's just see about that... no toxins around the school can be inhaled. Not only that, but it lacks the materials to even make them in the first place."

Kōi Yorokobi:
"What if he ate the poison? What about that, huh?"

Bukiyōya Hito:
"I can confirm that he ate nothing while he was here and that his overall stature implied that he did not die from starvation. He was thin, but not deathly thin."

Kōi Yorokobi:
"Did he really eat nothing? Maybe I just don't understand his eating habits."

Bukiyōya Hito:
"Well, considering I, myself, also haven't eaten, you most likely don't understand mine either."

Kōi Yorokobi:
"You need to eat sometimes, y'know! I can't have you dying on us!"

Bukiyōya Hito:
"And why would that be?"

Kōi Yorokobi:
"Stop asking me questions. Now, what else do we need to cover?"

Tetsudzuki Genkaku:
"How about we narrow down the list of suspects using present alibis? The whole purpose of this trial is to uncover who exactly killed Maigo. And the person who would know the most about that would be..."

Bukiyōya Hito:
"Isn't that right, Chikyu? You know all the pairings, correct?"

Chikyū Chōsa:
"Uhm, yeah? What about them?"

Tetsudzuki Genkaku:
"We need to know who was with who to narrow down which pairings where too far from the scene."

Chikyū Chōsa:
"Alright, then. Let's go in order. How about we start with myself to prove that I'm not lying about myself..."

Chikyū Chōsa:
"Well, for starters, I was with Shīrudo for the majority of the time."

I quickly glanced across the trial room at him, to which he nodded.

Chikyū Chōsa:
"A few minutes after you guys left, I discovered the surveillance system on the computer. Shīrudo tried to mess with it, moving the cameras around, left and right, attempting to snap it off its hinges."

Yume Sutoringu:
"Ah, that makes sense as to why it was moving so vigorously! It made me finch for a second!"

Chikyū Chōsa:
"He then left to guard the door. I made sure that he didn't leave, checking every few seconds that he didn't move from his spot, knowing his rash behaviour."

Shīrudo Mamoru:
"You know that I would've moved if I could..."

Chikyū Chōsa:
"All the while keeping an eye on all of you guys."

Bukiyōya Hito:
"Okay, a pretty solid alibi... now, about those cameras..."

"Phew, I'm glad that I'm clear!"

Ironashi Hoīru:
"Yeah, but that doesn't prove anything! Who was with who?"

Chikyū Chōsa:
"Well if I recall...Tetsudzuki and Ironashī, Kojin with Saki, Kōi and Hikari, with trust obviously, Wakusei and Nusumu, Kōzō with Shūchū, Sukina and Yume and finally, Bukiyōya and Maigo."

Wakusei Shisutemu:
"Wait...does that mean that Bukiyōya is the killer?"

Tetsudzuki Genkaku:
"Not necessarily... We have no proof that he even went into the room before his death."

Chikyū Chikyū:
"Well...about that... we don't have any proof he went in. But, we do have proof that he didn't!"

Bukiyōya Hito (AFFIRM):
"I'm just glad someone believes me..."

"No one went into the room before Maigo's death."

Saki Hana!
"Aw man! But that puts us back to square one!"

Kōzō Hato:
"Not if we keep pushing forward!"
