The crisp air filled his lungs.
Tam looked up. The sky was a lovely blend of oranges and reds, accompanied by the odd yellow. If he looked close enough, Tam could see the crescent outline of the moon.
Tam felt goosebumps prickle his arms and he instinctively reached out to warm them.
The whole world seemed to still. There were no birds, animals, or sounds. There was no rushing creek, no wind, no annoying voices. It was so quiet Tam could hear his heart beating.
Tam took a deep breath. He exhaled and a bit of fog puffed out. It was really nice here.
Tam had always loved the calm and quiet.
He stood watching the sunset for who knows how long, until before he knew it the sky was no longer orange, and was now painted a deep indigo.
The stars were splattered across the sky, sort of like space freckles.
Tam wished he could stay and spend the night watching the sky.
He had to leave, he told himself.
Linh was probably getting worried.
Oh shoot. He had to explain the whole ditching school to go to Atlantis with jerk-boy thing to her.
Tam sighed. All too soon his precious calm was gone.
He took one last wistful glance up at the sky before he light leaped away.
"WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN!" A voice screamed.
Tam winced. "Sorry Linh.."
Linh glared at him. "Sorry is not enough! I thought you had been captured by the freaking Neverseen! Or joined them!"
"I wouldn't do that!" Tam argued.
"I mean if you were going to ditch school," Linh continued ignoring his protests, "Why couldn't you tell me first so that I would not have nearly had a heart attack!"
"I'm sorry! I would have told you, I just forgot and there wasn't any time!" Tam said.
"What were you doing?!"
Tam looked down. "It's..it's a long story."
Linh crossed her arms. "And I have time."
Tam glared at her.
Linh raised her eyebrows. "I'll go grab something for us to eat, go wait for me in the living room, and don't you dare even think about leaving."
She bounced away.
Princess Purryfins glared at Tam from over the dresser.
Tam glared back.
Stupid fish-cat.
Tam hung his jacket on the dresser, and made his way to the living room.
He plopped down on the well worn couch and sunk into the cushions. Tiergans place might be a heck of a lot smaller than Candleshade, but it was so much comfier.
Linh returned with a plate of slightly burned brownies and milk.
She put them on the coffee table, and sat on the couch across from Tam.
'So..." She prompted, "Are you gonna tell me?"
Tam sighed, and reached for a brownie.
Linh swiped the plate away from him. "Nope! Brownies are for after I hear the story!"
Tam glared at her.
Linh smiled at him. She took a brownie from the plate and slowly took a bite of it.
"Mmmm." She said, with her mouth full, "So good. Too bad you can't have any, because it is delicious. So fudgy and chewy and chocolatey and-"
"Fine." Tam said. "Fine I give up."
Tam told her everything that had happened, minus the whole being decent to Keefe part. In his version of the story, him and Keefe were exchanging glares and jabs the entire time.
Linh nodded along, sneakily eating three more brownies, until Tam argued that he wouldn't finish the story if she didn't save him any.
Finally Tam finished.
Linh nodded slowly, half a brownie in her mouth. "So now what?"
"What do you mean?" Tam asked, confused.
"Well, what will you do now?"
"Um, go to bed? Finish my homework?" Tam said, "I don't know, maybe eat a brownie if there are any left."
Linh rolled her eyes and slid the nearly empty plate of brownies across the table to Tam.
Tam took one and savoured its awesomeness. Kind of burnt though. But still good.
"I don't think you should go to bed yet." Linh said thoughtfully. Her face lit up. "Oh! Do you want to watch one of those human films together?"
"Which one?"
Linh got up and sat on the carpet. She pulled out a bin filled with human films that Sophie had brought them.
"Hmmm." Linh considered a few then held up a couple for Tam to see. "Choose between Ratatouille, Ponyo or Batman."
Tam thought for a moment. "Batman." He was the coolest guy after all. Such awesome fashion choices. Love the color scheme.
"Well too bad, we're watching Ponyo." Linh popped the dvd into the player and started searching for the remote.
Tam rolled his eyes and finished his brownie. Linh finally found the remote under the table.
"Oh, and Sophie might drop by to watch with us if she finishes her homework on time." Linh added.
Tam shrugged. "Hey, can you pass me the blanket?"
The blanket was thrown at his face, and Tam started to get comfy. Linh finished setting the movie up, and turned off the lights. She crawled under the blanket with Tam and started to select the movie options. She set the subtitles in the elven language, which Sophie had specifically added for them.
The movie started, and Tam winced at the sudden light from the movie lit the dark room.
