Alina had given up. She hailed the council nearly 40 times, and they had not picked up.
Fine.
If that's how they were going to be, she would just go home. It was three in the freaking morning, and Alina was tired, hungry and mad. The council could deal with the twin however they wanted. Alina, on the other hand, would be busy taking a bath and eating her (very late) dinner.
She smiled at the thought. Oh yeah. She would make a lovely cup of tea with honey, warm up some stew, draw a bath in her olympic pool worthy tub, maybe add some bubbles-
Something moved in the corner of her eye.
She ignored it. Where was she? Ah yes. Lots of bubbles. She briefly wondered which soap she should use. Rose perhaps. Or lavender? Jasmine was always a reliable choice, but she was in the mood for a something that smelled a little more rocoscious.
A door slammed.
Alina spun towards the sound. It was the door leading to the Leapmaster.
A million thoughts raced through her head. It must be the twin. It must be trying to escape.
If Alina chased after him she could probably bring him back. The council would eventually come and take him away. She started towards the stairs, then hesitated.
Why should she do everything for the rest of the council, when they wouldn't even answer her hails? Why should she be the one to do the dirty work, to stay at foxfire until 3 in the morning, and for what? To catch a child? Alina was a councillor! She was one of the most important and influential elves in Enternalia! How dare they disrespect her like this! If they wanted to catch a child, they should have hired a babysitter!
Alina was done here.
She turned and marched out of foxfire, head held high.
Keefe slammed the door behind him. He panted, out of breath and slid to the floor.
"Can you...can you turn on the leapmaster" He gestured towards the crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
Tam nodded and started to search for the button leading to his and Linh's home.
Keefe sighed. He was nearly 80 percent sure that Alina had left Foxfire. He didn't exactly know why, but for now he was ready to take a deep breath and calm down. Between all the crying and the hopeless feelings and the panic that Tam would be sent to exile, tonight had been..
"Awesome!" Keefe exclaimed, pumping a weak fist into the air. "Tonight has been freaking awesome!"
Tam started at him for a few moments. "What? This night was a disaster! Me and Linh nearly got sent to exile! This has been the most stressful night of my life! How the heck is that awesome?"
Keefe hesitated for a moment and looked at the ceiling. He seemed to be thinking. "Well....it was pretty exciting, don't you think?"
Tam stared in disbelief. "You have got to be kidding me."
