"Ria...wake up, honey." Vivian crouched down near her daughter's bed and smiled.
The little girl was wrapped up in a space themed duvet, complete with tiny stars and rockets. The entire room was space themed, actually. The curtains, only a crack open, had tiny white dots on them and there was a rocket night light on the bedside table. There was also a poster with all the planets on them and a kid's desk with a crooked but cute astronaut drawing on an Etch A Sketch. A couple other drawings were hung up around the room, including flowers, stars, fish, trees, and a family portrait, with four people - three adults and one child. Above them, their names were all written: Ariel, Mommy, Uncle Mars, Auntie Kat.
Ariel rubbed her eyes before they fluttered open and she grinned.
"Good morning, Mommy." The little brunette said. She had a cute fringe and beautiful, long eyelashes with rosy cheeks.
"Morning, Ri. You know what day it is?" Viv asked warmly.
"Saturday?" Ria asked.
"Well yes, but it's also the very first day of your half-term holiday," Vivian said, and Ria gasped.
"Really?" Ria beamed.
"Yeah. And to top it all off, your uncle is coming over, and I made pancakes." Viv proudly announced as Ria gasped.
"So, I'll give you another five minutes to lie down, then come downstairs and I bet Uncle Mars will be down there to play with you." Viv smiled, and Ariel nodded enthusiastically before Viv left the room, leaving the door open. She walked downstairs and just as she reached the first floor, the front door opened and her brother Marshall entered.
"Is Ria awake?" He asked quietly.
"Oh, yeah, good to see you too, Marsh." Viv rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah." Marshall rolled his eyes.
"Where's Phee?" Viv asked.
"She's sick, actually," Marshall said.
"What?! Why did you come, go take care of her!" Viv insisted.
"I was going to! But she told me to go visit you guys." Marshall said.
"Okay, I'll let Ariel come down and have breakfast, brush her teeth, get dressed and we'll go visit Ophelia," Viv said.
"Really? You sure?" Marshall asked.
"Yeah. She won't mind if Ariel is around, right?" Vivian asked.
"Maybe because she doesn't want to get her sick," Marshall said.
"Oh, I'm sure she'll be fine. Besides, I'm a mother, I know every home remedy for anything."
"You're not wrong there."
...
Soon enough, Ariel, Marshall, and Vivian were driving to Marshall's house, talking about a topic that frequently came up whenever Marshall and Ariel spoke.
"Why did your parents name you Mars?" Ariel asked.
"They named me Marshall, Ariel," Marshall confirmed, keeping his eyes on the road as he drove.
"Did they call you Mars?" Ariel asked.
"Nope," Marshall said.
"Did they like space?" Ariel asked.
"They were indifferent," Marshall said.
