Sarutobi has just finished sending off team seven on their first C-ranked mission.

With the office empty and no one to watch him, Sarutobi sighed and leaned back in his chair to look at the ceiling with defeat.

He was tired.

Year after year, he would sit on this very seat and work overtime to attempt to stay above the hoard of paperwork that had been sucking the very life out of him. He knew his village wasn't perfect, and he knew what he needed to do to fix it.

He just couldn't figure out where that blasted paper went about the academy standards. His barrier corps were sitting on their asses because he never got around to getting them to hurry up and build a new barrier for Konoha. Danzo was off being despicable somewhere in the sewers but he was already in over his head.

He was old. His mind didn't work as quickly as it used to, and he found himself making more mistakes than anything else lately.

Sarutobi looked at the new stack of papers his assistant had brought in with a scowl before sighing and pulling open his drawer. He didn't even have it in him to be angry.

He was just resigned to his fate. He was going to die in this chair.

He plucked the book from the drawer and opened it up to his saved page.

The boy who had written these books, Severus he called himself, was a blessing on his mind. Sarutobi loved the gentleness of his novels, the kindness poured into every sweet word, and the innocence of its love.

He'd known about Severus being in his village unannounced on the day he came here. When he'd received a report of a new bank member using their banking system. Of course he'd recognized the name immediately and proceeded to keep an eye out for him.

Reports described the young man as an open book, who walked like royalty and stuck his nose up at misbehaviour. He was described to be caring to children, and dabbled in the art of fuinjutsu. He'd taken on a student his first night here, but it appears as though it came about on accident. Severus had ran into Naruto Uzumaki, the jinchuuriki, on Hokage mountain.

It was a matter of course that Severus had taken the boy under his wing.

Sarutobi couldn't blame the man. He would have done the same if their positions were switched.

He'd watched the man interact with the people of his village for the next two weeks. He had become fast friends with Kakashi, and convinced Naruto he was a woman. Though it seemed as if Severus just didn't mind being mistaken for one.

When nothing incriminating happened, he finally decided to meet the boy, and sent a summons for him. He was a mild mannered young man with a bit of a bite to his words.

It was honestly refreshing. Sarutobi has found himself immediately endeared to the man after seeing how open he was for himself.

Severus wore his heart on his sleeve. Every little nuance of emotion was displayed, and sometimes, Sarutobi wanted to just laugh at that. He took himself far too seriously, and was hilariously dramatic.

He'd fit in perfectly with his village.

My new house reminded me of Mito-sama. The way it was built was the same, with fancy sliding paper doors and clean tatami mats. The engawa veranda was freshly redone and the hot springs were in the middle of the house. Like, the house was built around the hot springs.

It was beautiful house and I was incredibly pleased by it. It was, dare I say, better than my palace.

With a new environment around me, I decided to sit down at the kotatsu in the living area and start on a new series. My first books had been based on my own romantic endeavours of my previous life, adding in a permanent male lead and more romance. Instead of having various different lovers, I had made it so the romance stayed that strong and magnetic with just one partner.
