Minato had handed the hat over to his son Naruto so he could go out and search for Orochimaru.

It didn't matter that the council complained about Naruto only being 13 years old. Or that there had been a public outcry about the boy taking up the mantel before he was fully trained. Naruto was a fast learner! He could learn on the job!

To Minato this mission couldn't be handed off to anyone else since it currently wasn't known that Orochimaru was still alive.

He'd tried getting Jiraiya to search but the man had blatantly refused. He was too busy writing the next novel in his icha icha series. Minato didn't really care for the series. At all.

He preferred reading Orochimaru's BL novels he'd found inside the secret safe of the Hokage office. He'd even gotten the first book published under an alias ten years ago for some extra mission funds.

It had been a best seller, but it was eventually banned when people discovered that it had been written by Orochimaru.

His idiot sensei had based one of the side characters near the end after himself. Though it was admittedly steamy.

Minato had reread the series dozens of times. He'd gotten thousands of letters to release the next novel already but he was hesitant to do so now that Orochimaru was alive and well.

His sensei might get kill him.

Let's not focus on that though. Minato was on a journey to find his sensei.

He'd left his son in charge a month ago and although there was chaos currently happening in his village and his son was definitely way over his head in paperwork. Minato believed that his village will be fine.

He could take Naruto to a psychiatrist when he returned.

Minato had first searched in the one place he believed his favourite sensei would go. The land of snow.

He was way off the mark, but he really thought his sensei would be fascinated by the advanced technology there.

Instead he ended up saving the country from the reign of some tyrant leader while putting the princess in charge. He'd found her in the basement as a prisoner.

After that whole fiasco he heard that the ninja in the sand were having troubles against some sort of war ship. He went over and quickly destroyed the ship and saved a hoard of children.

He also acquired some sort of stone called the gelel stone in some old man he was fighting.

He then interrogated some people and stole a key to some cave with more stones as well as some book.

He went to the cave, thinking Orochimaru would be there for the power of the gelel stones only to be disappointed.

All he found was an empty cave that held immense power. He left some clones to mine the stones and continued on his way to find his sensei.

He decided to go to the land of the moon since their country was rich and had a ton of things similar to the leaf village.

He instead found himself hired by the islands ruler to off some guy trying to do a coup de etat. He also scolded a couple brats for being little shits to their parents.

He didn't find Orochimaru. Though he ended up being hailed as a hero there for a simple assassination mission.

Finally he made his way to the land of rice after hearing rumours that various people have been going missing.
