When we got back home, it was the early hours of the morning and we were both completely shattered. We had spent the whole journey talking about our engagement, planning how we were going to tell our friends and family. I fiddled with the ring on my finger as Harry talked about how nervous he was to ask me. We had only been together for a short period of time, but I knew I wanted to spend my life with Harry. I had always dreamed of settling down and getting married one day, I just had no idea it would be to another man, and especially not someone as perfect as Harry. The moment we got home, we went straight to bed, our bodies entwining together as we fell asleep in each other's arms.
I woke up to find Harry creeping through the bedroom, mugs of coffee in his hands. "Morning," I said, smiling up at him. He handed me my drink, climbing back into bed and scrolling through his phone.
"I was thinking, maybe we should invite everyone around later to tell them the news?" he grinned at me, gesturing to the ring still on my finger.
"That would be great, I can't wait to see their faces," I laughed, imagining my mum's face when I tell her I've found my person. Harry text his mum, Gemma and Liam, and I text my mum, Niall and Zayn, informing them that they should all be at our house for 7pm, giving them all plenty of time to finish work and get here. They all replied saying that they would be there, and the excitement started to kick in. As the day went on, Harry and I decided to take a trip to the supermarket. We didn't have a lot of food in after our trip to France and we knew that with Niall coming over we'd need supplies. He drove us to the shop, our hands laced together over the gear stick. Harry always enjoyed pushing the shopping trolley, and I enjoyed seeing this immature side of him.
"What snacks do we need?" he asked, searching the shelves for ideas.
"I don't mind, Haz, get whatever you like!" I called back, turning around to grab a bottle of lemonade from the bottom shelf. When I stood up, I noticed a familiar face looking over at me.
"Hey, you," Eleanor said, walking in my direction. Her hair was longer than before, the waves cascading down her back as she walked towards me.
"How are you?" I asked, politely smiling at her.
"I'm doing good, how is everything with you?" I noticed her look over my shoulder, and I turned slightly to see Harry awkwardly hovering near us.
"El, do you remember Harry?" I asked, motioning for him to come closer and join the conversation.
"Hi, Eleanor. It's nice to see you," he said, looking down at the floor as he talked. This was a side of Harry I'd never seen before. He was never awkward; he was usually so confident.
"It's nice to see you too, Harry. I heard you two were dating, actually, is that true?" I nodded, taking Harry's hand in mind.
"Yeah, we've been together since Christmas," I smiled, feeling Harry relax under my touch.
"I'm so pleased you're both happy, you deserve it!" she replied, looking down at our hands. "Wait, is that a ring?" she gasped, pointing to it. Harry and I quickly looked at each other, we hadn't even told our family yet and now my ex-girlfriend was about to be the first to find out.
"Yes, I proposed yesterday," Harry answered, smiling at me.
"Congratulations!" she squealed, "I know how much you wanted to get married, Louis, you must be so happy!"
"Yeah, I am, thank you," I said, smiling back at her. "So, how are things with you? How are your parents?" I asked, trying to turn the attention away from us.
"They're doing well, I actually moved out of their house a couple months ago. I'm living with a few girlfriends which is nice. I'm actually seeing this guy, Max, it's the early stages but I'm excited to see where it goes."
